1.05 Punchestown
AGK Displays Craddockstown Novice Chase (Grade 2) (Class
1) (4YO plus)
Winner €26,026
Advice: 6 pts win Oscars Well (4/6 general)
Baily Green: Always knows as fairly useful before this
season, but has really taken off this summer/autumn, with 6 straight wins over
fences including hat trick of graded events latest; Big penalty to lump around
today, but respected nevertheless.
Twinlight: Fortunate winner of Graded hurdle as juvenile
(third at Punchestown Festival’s Grade 1 event) and taken well to chasing,
winning 2-3 over fences (set to win when coming down 3 out on debut); Made hard
work of winning Grade 3 novice at Galway last month but may have yet more to
give.
Jenari: Had looked set to become disappointing over hurdles
but put that right when relishing the step up in trip to land Grade 2 in good
style, and going well when falling in Grade 1 over 2m4f at Punchestown; Decent
chasing debut (form boosted by Dylan Ross) and should go well here.
Oscars Well: Not able to quite match his novice hurdling
form in senior ranks last year, but showed enough in Grade 1’s over 2 miles to
know that he is still a serious horse and much the best of these on ratings;
Impeccable chasing debut over C&D last month and gets very handy weight concessions
from 2 of four rivals today, so very much the one to beat despite step up in
class.
VERDICT: A small but select field. OSCARS WELL went winless
last season but was pitched in at a very high level on a number of occasions
and showed renewed promise when bolting up over his chasing debut over C&D
last month. Getting 6lbs from Baily Green and 3lbs from Twinlight can only help
his cause, while he was much the superior of Jenari over hurdles and looks at
least as good a chaser.
