Florida Pearl Novice Chase 2012

1.40 Punchestown
Florida Pearl Novice Chase (Grade 2) (Class 1)  (5YO plus)
Winner €24,374

Advice: 5 pts win Back In Focus (8/13 general)

Owner detailsBack In Focus: Only had the four runs under rules but showed huge engine and major potential when beating Court In Motion by 6 lengths with ease in 3m Haydock Grade 2; Presumably not back right when he was absent for 15 months after running on fast ground in 3m Grade 1, but showed what he’s all about again when winning on chasing debut by 33 lenghts; Will take the beating today if able to repeat it.

Owner detailsFarrells Fancy: Rated 124 over hurdles last term, winning Tipperary maiden and then running well in Graded novice events; Needed seasonal/novice chasing debut but better when making all to beat subsequent winner Jetson at Thurles; This requires yet more of him.

Owner detailsSweeney Tunes: Very impressive when winning readily at Thurles last month considering how long he’s been out for (obviously had his problems) and was set to take control of the race when left clear at the last; This a much tougher affair.

Owner detailsLyreen Legend: Revelation over hurdles last season when winning Grade 2 event at Thurles in clear cut style, then second in one of the stronger events run this season over that trip and third in Grade 1 at end of the season; Should go well here after easy chasing win on debut.

VERDICT: This should be between Lyreen Legend and BACK IN FOCUS, with Willie Mullins’s charge given the clear vote after his destruction of an admittedly ordinary field at Thurles. On heavy ground he looks nigh on unbeatable (his Grade 2 win by 6 lengths from Court In Motion was one of the performances of that novice hurdling season) and conditions have come ripe for him today.
