Fortia Chase 2012

2.50 Navan
Irish Form Book Fortria Chase (grade 2) (Class 1)  (5YO plus)
Winner €24,374
Advice: 1 pt win Flemenstar (11/10 Stan James, Coral)

Owner detailsBig Zeb: 6 time Grade 1 winning chaser, now veteran of the 2m Chasing game who has won this last three years running and still had enough to win 2m Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas; Should go well if tuned up to run to his very best despite advanced years; Of interest.

Owner detailsRealt Dubh: Consistent at top level for last two seasons and pushed Sizing Europe all the way on heavy ground in Champion Chase last season (well ahead of Big Zeb ) and comeback over 3m was more than respectable, although hardly ideal that took place just 8 days ago; Big player here nonetheless.

Owner detailsMr Cracker: Very useful novice chaser in 2010/11 when taking 3 wins including brace of Grade 2’s, but only run two times since being well beaten behind Realt Dubh and not shaped as if he retains any of that ability.

Owner detailsFlemenstar: Useful over hurdles but taken form to new dimension novice chasing last year after being beaten by Bog Warrior here on chasing debut, that being his only defeat over the bigger obstacles; Set for big future and while  stable vibes are very much that he’ll come on significantly for this, he loves heavy ground and class may out.

Owner detailsFoildubh: Rose steadily through the handicap ranks last season, taking big 2m5f race at Leopardstown looking unlucky when coming down in bid to take similar race even off higher mark; Took advantage of lower hurdles mark when landing 2m race at Tpperary and then second to Hidden Cyclone; Giving 5lbs to that horse is extremely tough task but flattered to get so close and couple should be too good for him.

VERDICT: Some have expressed worry over the fitness of FLEMENSTAR but Peter Casey’s top notcher gets 3lbs from main rivals Big Zeb and Realt Dubh, relishes heavy ground, and should be able to just get away with the first time out factor if his performances throughought last season are to be believed.
