It’s been a wonderful flat season for many reasons and Henry
Cecil’s training of Frankel should rank as highly as any amongst them, so it
would be considered apt by many if his First Fandango – one a work companion to
the recently retired great – could take his career record to four in four with
victory in the hotly contested November handicap (2.35) today for the now
famous Cecil/Queally combination.
And if handling a dramatic ground change from soft/heavy to
good, and a 12lbs rise with it, then he should go well and take the beating but
our horse to follow through the season in Kirthill (below), who can consider himself
unlucky not to have won a big prize at Newbury when last seen when carried wide
in a quality handicap at Newbury. With the ground surprisingly good for this
time of year, he makes a lot of appeal off a mark of 103 with his cosy win over
this trip at York two starts back in mind. Considering that he’s only had the 5
runs this season, freshness shouldn’t be a problem and he’s of interest today
to end our flat season on a high.
Others of interest are Communicator – who has relished good
ground particularly on his last two starts –Art Scholar (who gets a handy
turnaround with Party Line for his defeat over C&D two starts ago, and with
First Mohican as well) and Clayton, who came into his last race off a 4 month
break and should enjoy the better ground, all of whom hold viable chances.
Advice
1 pt each/way Kirthill, 2.35 Doncaster (8/1 general)
