Cheltenham Open Meeting 2012 - Shloer Chase

2.20 Cheltenham
Shloer Chase (Class 2)  (5YO plus)
Winner £31,280

Advice: No bet.

Owner detailsDoeslessthanme: Better than ever at the end of last season when having sorted out his jumping, winning novice chase at Hereford and handicaps at Newton Abbot/Ayr in the spring, notably impressive last time; Has to be given a big here with Sprinter Sacre out and soft ground no problem; Should go close.

Owner detailsLancetto: Quite useful as a novice in his own right although he seemed to find his ceiling off a mark of 137 midway through last campaign when beaten four times; Needs to improve to be winning this but does have place chances.

Owner detailsImperial Shabra: Fairly useful hurdler/chaser who has three wins over fences to his name so far, although all of them in fairly weak company and shown up at Down Royal last time; Expect front running over 2m to suit much more, but others still make more appeal.

Owner detailsFinich Flyer: Tailed off on chase debut and totally out of depth in this company.

Owner detailsKinkeel: Loveable veteran who is also out of his depth in this company.

Owner detailsWishfull Thinking: Has season blighted by poor form and breathing issues last year although did seem to be momentarily back to something like his best when second to Wishfull Thinking at Kempton; Good return in Old Roan Chase when giving so much weight to runaway winner in For Non Stop; With Sprinter Sacre out and getting 4lbs from Doeslessthanme, looks to hold favourite’s chance, although better on faster ground.

VERDICT: Sadly the contest has been robbed of Sprinter Sacre, although it may well look to be a wise move at the end of the season. This leaves it between WISHFULL THINKING and Doeslessthanme, with the 4lbs Paul Nicholls’s charge has to give swinging it in direction of the Hobbs Charge.
