3.10 Punchestown
Madra Irish Dog Foods Novice Chase (5YO plus)
Winner €12,075
Advice: 1 pt win by Mikael D’Haugenet (evs general)
Aupcharlie: Had been disappointing over hurdles but much
better chaser, as he showed with fantastic round of jumping at Gowran Park
before twice being outstayed by National Hunt Chase 1-2; Limp in Jewson, but
that best forgotten and not much between him and stablemate Mikael D’Haugenet.
Dylan Ross: Back to something like his best last time when
second to slid Mullins yardstick (runs two better today) over just a furlong
shorter than today; Can go well here at his best and potentially interesting
for all that effort under pressure leaves a lot to be desired.
Grey Gold: Taking a big rise in class following his Carlisle
win but hard not to be impressed with his attitude when winning on second chase
start nearly six weeks ago, a win which shows he handles heavy ground; Others
preferred.
Mikael D’Haugenet: Has suffered loss of form since being so
promising as novice hurdler but still retain considerable talent as shown by
two of his chasing wins this season (one ahead of RSA winner Lord Windermere); Could
well have had 4 had it not been for jumping errors, closing on Argocat at
Christmas when coming down 5 out and set to win (travelling ominously well to
say least) when hitting the third last at Naas; no answer to Realt Mor in
Powers Gold Cup but his is a lesser test and chance if his jumping holds up.
Louisville Lip: Just his second chase outing but needs
tremendous amount of improvement.
VERDICT: Willie Mullins has dominated all but one day this
week and holds the aces here with Aupcharlie and MIKAEL D’HAUGENET, who has proven
disappointing over fences but still has a lot of ability and jumped as well as
he has for some time last week.
