Punchestown Festival 2013 - Champion Bumper

6.05 Punchestown
Betdaq The Peoples Exchange Champion I.N.H Flat Race (Grade 1) (Class 1)  (4YO to 7YO)
Winner €51,999

Apache Stronghold: Striking when impressive a winner's bumper on his debut, and set to go hurdling until setback’ seems held by The Mighty Man on his reappearance form but surely all the better for that (first run in five months) and potentially interesting here.

Blackmail: Disappointed in Champion Bumper when midfield but that surely not his true ability and can be given a strong chance if back to the form that saw him win Leopardstown bumper impressively after second to Moyle Park (winner here yesterday); Capable of better.

Gilt Shadow: Get the feeling that he was left unsuited by the slow gallop when unable to land a blow in Navan Grade 2; Clearly has plenty of ability based on impressive win on debut at Down Royal but plenty more needed.

Makethedifference: Good attitude evident when opening account at Navan but that a poor race and more needed here.

Outlander: Unbeaten in three bumper starts, each time impressing with how he finished his race, and while he was much harder at work when winner at Naas today, he was giving away significant amount of weight; Should be involved at business end.

Poisden Sea: Exposed well before his midfield finish at Cheltenham and hard to see him winning.

Sizing Tennessee: Refusal to settle probably ended his Cheltenham chances properly before he was able to land a blow and that too bad to be true; Comfortable wins in heavy-ground bumpers here and at Gowran this season and not without his chance on ground that may suit him more.

The Liquidator: Has had a fine season, finishing second at Cheltenham behind Irish trained Anois before easy Exeter win and then cracking effort at Cheltenham; Has to find 9 lengths with Briar Hill on that meeting and near impossible to see him doing so.

The Mighty Milan: Hugely impressive 14 length course and distance win last season and built on that when running for first time this year, beating well fancied pair at Fairyhouse; Must improve for that outing and potentially interesting.

Que Pasa: Talented mare who ran above all previous form when impressive in Cork event and ran to form now giving away weight in Navan listed contest. Needs more here.

Grecian Tiger: Won in good style at Naas on debut and he may have seen too much too early when second at Leopardstown; Visor (idles a lot) may do the trick for him but still has a lot of ground to make up.

VERDICT: The withdrawal of favourite Briar Hill leaves the race wide open, with The Liquidator, Blackmail, and Sizing Tennessee all holding strong chance on their best form, and THE MIGHTY MILAN and Outlander having strong claims, with preference for The Mighty Milan, who promises to improve after giving 7lsb and a beating to a useful rival on his first start for a year. Apache Stronghold was behind him but he was coming back from injury and can outrun his price into a place at least.
