Punchestown Festival 2013 - Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association Fillies Scheme E.B.F. Mares Hurdle 2013

4.25 Punchestown

Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association Fillies Scheme E.B.F. Mares Hurdle (Grade 1) (Class 1)  (4YO plus)
Winner €61,999

Advice: 2 pts win Tarla (4/6 general), 1 pt Tarla-Diakali double (3.09 Sportingbet)

Owner detailsGlen’s Melody: One of the most improved mares of the season, winning novice hurdles in deeply impressive style before distant 12 length second to Annie Power in Fairyhouse novice Grade 1 latest; Could improve yet further still and deserves to take her chance here.

Owner detailsOilily: Classy mare at her best, but now well exposed and couldn’t hold a candle to Tarla latest at Cork and never won on ground worse than good.

Owner detailsShadow Elie: Tough and consistent when scoring twice in space of a month last summer, and ran a cracker when fourth behind Quevega latest; That form gives her chance here on strict formline, for all that she was well behind Swincombe Flame.

Owner detailsSwincombe Flame: Won 5 of her first 6 races in fine style, but found life a little tougher since then, possibly not taking to fences as she did hurdles; Third in Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham gives her chance and she goes on heavy, so considered.

Owner detailsTarla: Impressive in France for Thomas Trapenard and won mares hurdle in good style here three years ago, and unbeaten since for Mullins yard when completing, falling twice in novice chases when set to win twice, and deeply impressive over 2m4f at Cork latest; This tougher but plenty of class and worthy favourite.

VERDICT: TARLA has blotted her copybook with some loose jumping over fences this season but showed that she retained all her class and more when romping home at Cork latest and she can beat Swincombe Flame, Shadow Elie and Glen’s Melody.
