Sussex Stakes 2012

3.10 Goodwood
Qipco Sussex Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Class 1)  (3YO plus)
Winner £179,487

Advice: 2.5 pts Frankel to win by 5 to 8 lengths inclusive (6/4 Bolyes)

Owner detailsBullet Train: Useful in his own right but pacemaker for Frankel.

Owner detailsFarhh: Turned from handicapper into Group 1 horse in matter of three runs as he bolted away with Htirks Hunt Cup and then looked unlucky to finish second in Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, an impression he confirmed when a close second to Nathaniel in Coral Eclipse; Second best easily here and would have a very good chance of winning here if it wasn’t for him being against Frankel.

Owner detailsFrankel: Confirmed impression that he gave of being on a different planet to everything else with stunning Queen Anne win at Royal Ascot, his seventh Group 1 and his most impressive win of all; Should win well before tackling bigger and better tests here.

Owner detailsGabrial: Turned into a very useful colt in short space of time, overcoming unlucky seasonal reappearance with big handicap win in Betfred Bowl and unlucky not place in Group 1 St James’s Palace at Ascot last time out; That form a world away from this and looks inferior to Farhh here.

VERDICT: This is a cakewalk for FRANKEL, who will make it 12 from 12 with ease, having reached a huge peak in the Queen Anne when showing us his pull performance at 4 in breathaking style, With only three rivals, the same might not be evident but he’s here to be enjoyed and we should savour him. The value in the race for betting interests might be the 8/11 on him winning by more than 6 lengths or the 6/5 on him winning between 5 and 8 lengths inclusively, as you’d expect him to have that much in hand of Farhh easily. Those who want some special interest in the winning distances might back him on the handicap at 11/4 with Hills. To win he must beat Farhh by more than 8, Gabrial by 13 lengths and Bullet Train by 15 lengths, and while it seems far-fetched, if let of the leash he seems well capable for those who fancy it.
