3.45 Goodwood
iShares Fillies' Stakes (Registered As The Lillie Langtry
Stakes) (Group 3) (Class 1) (3YO plus)
Winner £31,190
Advice: 1 pt win Hawafeez (7/2 general)
Bolivia: Previously very useful but several disappointing
efforts then led to handicap mark dropping enough to comfortably win 1m6f handicap
at Sandown two starts back, but well behind Hazel Lavery at Newmarket last time
and won’t reverse that form.
Hawafeez: Most impressive winner of 1m5f Listed event in May
on return, following wide margin handicap win gained at back end of last
season; Could well be still improving and this extra furlong is sure to suit
here, so has to be high on the list.
Jehannedarc: Winner on Deauville’s AW surface last time but
this step up to pattern company will find her out.
Midnight Soprano: Much improved Irish mare who followed up
valuable handicap double with Listed defeat of Saddler’s Rock at Leopardstown
where she revelled in mud and same story when second to Hartani in Curragh Cup;
This no less competitive but should be feared and there to pick up pieces
should anything go wrong.
Quiz Mistress: Close second to Number Theory in Old New Cup
last time after her second impressive handicap win of season at Salisbury the
time before that, winning well over 12 furlongs; Always looked as if she would
stay this extra distance but this a step up in class from mark of 90 into group
company.
Wild Coco: Beaten favourite in this last year, having
previously beaten the impressive winner of that event in easy style before
that; Since disappointed badly at York
and not seen since but on his best form hard not to see her launching serious
challenge; Market will tell all for her but one to watch closely.
Estimate: Seventh on one and only 2yo start but all about
stamina and galloping this year, as shown with her promising win at Sailsbury
and her Queen’s Vase romp at Royal Ascot, where she won by 5 lengths; Could
progress again but looked as if she’d be better over further than shorter that
day, and does now have the 3lbs penalty in a tougher event on paper; Did it
impressively but this harder.
Amaraja: Won 1m4f Epsom maiden last time out after running
in three decent contests to start career but others make more appeal and set
for handicaps.
Good Morning Star: Third in Bahrain Trophy last time to
follow series of disappointing efforts in Group company after shock Cheshire
Oaks win.
Hazel Lavery: Well beaten on seasonal reappearance by Kaliani
in Newmarket listed event (clear of rest in second) although she disappointed
in Ribblesdale Stakes; Clear cut winner of weak Listed race latest but
respected with the drop in trip likely to help him.
VERDICT: The most attractive proposition in this race looks
to be Wild Coco, who was so progressive last year before flopping in this race,
and on her best form she can win. However it’s been 350 days since we saw her,
so a strong market punish would speak volumes. The Queen’s Estimate was
impressive in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot, but this is tougher and she
might need further than this, so HAWAFEEEZ is preferred, having romped home in
a Listed event at Newbury on her seasonal debut, after which her trainer – who has
a strong course record, especially at this meeting - talked about the Ascot
Gold Cup for her. Hazel Lavery and Midnight Soprano are the ones to pick up the
pieces if the top three don’t perform.
