2.25 Newmarket
Newsells Park Stud Stakes (Registered As The Aphrodite
Stakes) (Fillies' Listed) (Class 1) (3YO
plus)
Winner £22,684
Pick: Meezenah (win)
Ceildh House: Didn’t really go on from a promising run at
beginning of last season but found form when winning an average listed race
last backend; Return effort behind Timepiece even more promising and should be
better for a longer trip so chance here.
Gallic Star: Acquitted herself with credit in two high class
events at end of last season but nowhere near that form this year.
Meezenah: Behind 2 pattern winners on her two juvenile
starts and improved no end for step up to 12 furlongs when trashing maiden
field by 9 lengths & steady improvement for the rest of the year, when
making frame in 3 consecutive Oaks; Well held on first run this season but that
in a really strong race for the grade and can go close here.
Never Forget: Vastly improved with racing last year, winning
Prix Du Malleret for Elle Lellouche (other runs best forgiven; wants sound
surface); Disappointing on start for this yard though and can only be watched.
Opera Gal: Consistent but slightly unlucky (not in running)
when tacking series of tough handicaps; Limitations exposed at Newcastle last
time and harder to see her going any better here.
Plaisterer: Never in danger when making an extremely taking
seasonal debut in winning handicap with ease, but unable to build on that
effort after rise in weights and/or class and
Sea Of Heartbreak: Unable to build on promising reappearance
effort in Dahlia Stakes next time out (against colts) and better last time out
when just behind Timepiece (ahead of Celidh House) last time out and can go
well here.
Charleston Lady: Showed plenty of promise on 2 juvenile
starts and even better on reappearance here in Pretty Polly Stakes (form
boosted in big way since); Step up in trip should help yet still and while she’s
stable second string on jockey bookings, form suggests otherwise.
Imperial Pippin: Taking debut winner and ran into two good
horses for the level when third next time; Seemingly exposed when well held by
Rumh in Listed event at Newbury and step up to this trip might not be enough.
Monicalew: Step up to this trip should suit based on Bath
handicap win at 1m2f, but that off only 65 and by small margin of just a neck;
This too hard.
Wild Coco: Promising debut when chasing home well-backed
horse and that blown out of the water when bolted up in Haydock maiden last
month (2nd, 3rd and 6th all won next time); Should take some beating.
VERDICT: A nice little event. Wild Coco’s maiden romp has
only been made to look better by the subsequent runners and she will take some
beating but the same too can be said of MEEZENAH’S reappearance and she can
make a bold bid with that under her belt.
