Casual Glimpse: Won twice in promising but troubled two year
old campaign, highlight when winning decent conditions contest at this meeting
a year ago; Doesn’t seem to have trained on.
Fury: Won maiden in very taking style and surpassed that
when taking sales race at Newmarket with relative ease (form very strong for
the level, strongest race of its type run last season); Ran with a lot of
credit in 2,000 Guineas, when he hadn’t gotten a clear run beforehand and the
firm ground was against him according to connections; Good effort again when
seemingly a little unlucky to get nosed out of things by progressive sort in
Listed company last time, and should go well again.
Cai Shen: 2- 3 as a juvenile when taking a maiden and novice
stakes with plenty in hand on both occasions, and same story when
enterprisingly ridden to land Newbury Conditions Stakes on reappearance; No
disgrace when placed in decent Listed contests but career best when trying and
only just failing to win the Britannia under top weight and can go close here.
Bridgefield: Was a good fourth in UAE 2000 Guineas second
start this year but hasn’t matched that form since and was well behind Cai Shen
in Britannia last time.
Slim Shadey: Held his form well over the majority of last
season, coming second in a Listed contest at Newbury before a fourth in a big
sales race; Ran well above his odds in Guineas but not matched that form since.
VERDICT: With only 4 starts to his name, Fury may well have
more to offer but the 2lbs he has to give to CAI SHEN, who ran such a terrific
race when second in the Britannia under top – weight and out wide at Royal
Ascot, could make the difference.
