3.35 Newmarket (July)
Earl Of Euston E.b.f. Conditions Stakes (Class 3) (2YO only)
Winner £7,763
Pick: Burwaaz (win)
Hadaj: Ran out a ready winner of contested maiden here on
debut despite getting very hated in the Preliminaries and also hanging in the
race; Looked well upto landing this sort of race there and interesting to see
how she does.
Harbour Watch: Overcame soft ground and trouble in running
to beat subsequent winner with ease on debut at Sailsbury, putting daylight
between himself and field quickly; Stable has strong 2yo team and should be
given plenty of respect.
Burwaaz: Looked sure fire winner when beating all but
subsequent winner Eureka on his debut, having pulled all the way; Didn’t need
to do much more when winning at Leicester but Norfolk run was hugely eye-catching,
coming late on in isolation on the far side; Form has worked out well enough
since and the one to beat.
Citizen’s Charter: Half - brother to the top class colt
Commentator and also is a half-brother to Savvy Supreme, a 6f Listed winner in
the US at 3; Drifted on debut but got the hang of things very quickly to come
late and win, with a well-regarded type held back in third; This a step up but
can hold own.
Bellechance: Driven out to land a Median auction maiden at
Newcastle on debut (form is solid for the level) and should improve from that,
for all this is a tougher race; Booking of Paul Hanagan interesting.
Dawn Lightning: Has met some good sorts in his career,
bumping into Coventry Stakes eighth on debut before coming third behind two
well liked types; Last of 6 in a Listed event at Sandown on last start and this
probably just as hard.
VERDICT: An event no less competitive than you would expect
for this meeting. Richard Hannon’s
Harbour Watch took many eyes when making an impressive debut at Sailsbury, and
so did Hadaj when running out a ready winner here, but both are disadvantage by
having to give 3lbs to BURWAAZ, who was so promising when fourth in the
Norfolk. None of the 6 should be discounted.
