Prix Chloe 2011

3.20 Chantilly
Prix Chloe (3yo Group 3 Stakes) (Class 1)  (3YO only)
Winner €47,352

Pick: Peniture Abstraite (win)

Beatrice Aurore: Going the right way this season, dispelling stamina doubts created by a flop on her seasonal reappearance with impressive success in the Height Of Fashion Stakes, beating a listed placed filly and a taking maiden winner; Sent for the Oaks off the back of that and ran with credit, always there until giving way in final furlong; Meets useful types but surely not done improving.

Countances: Decent 2yo run followed by better form this year, winning in driving finish under this rider for the first time; This a much deeper event however, and drop back in trip not a great help (bred to excel at middle – distances).

Peniture Abstraite: Looked to have a bright future when she came with a sweeping late run from a long way back to beat colts on her career debut four weeks ago in maiden company; Confirmed that promise, although beaten when third behind Coronation Stakes winner Immortal Verse last time out, possibly unsuited by the drop back to a mile and/or soft ground; Step up a furlong no problem and should go very close.

Magravine: Looked a horse to follow when winning her only 2yo start well but hasn’t built on that promise when disappointing in Group company the last twice; Easy winner doped in class but only wins are on heavy ground outside of Group company.

Dream Peace: Impressed when she got up to deny useful filly in Prix Volterra, as pair pulled clear of their three rivals; This race nominated as target ever since and well thought of by connections so must be respected.

Dalarua: A fascinating contender, (well bred filly; half-sister to several winners including useful middle-distance performer Creepshow) who comes here as one of the likely favourites if her abject display in the Prix Saint Alary is ignored, such was the promise she had shown previously; That said, might want 10 furlongs or more.

Malicia: Three from three, having take both her starts on the Deauville all- weather with ease before following up at 10 furlongs latest (first time on turf); Can’t be ignored here.

VERDICT: It says a lot about the considerable potential of Beatrice Aurore that we might not have seen the best of her at Epsom (despite finishing a creditable sixth) but the same can be said of PENITURE ABSTRAITE, who ran into a very good filly last time out and has ideal conditions today. She can resume her upwards curve.
