Glorious Goodwood 2011 - Lennox Stakes

3.10 Goodwood
bet365 Lennox Stakes (British Champions' Series) (Group 2) (Class 1)  (3YO plus)
Winner £79,394

Pick: Delegator (win)

Owner detailsDelegator: Not long ago since he was taking big hand in high class mile races, and shaped as if ability was there last season before injury (bruised foot) intervened; Made successful return to sprinting when mowing down field in Duke Of York Stakes; Bettered that form when unlucky in July Cup, doing best of those drawn wide (he was 17 of 17) and should go well here.

Owner detailsBalthazaar’s Gift: Can really run over 7f when in the mood, as he showed when landing 2010 Park Stakes; Not been at best of late and hard to judge how up for this he’ll be; Others taken over him in the circumstances.

Owner detailsBeacon Lodge: Only made it to track three times last season but performed admirably in good races & at best when winning listed event with something to spare on return; Good runs on three occasions since but safely held by Libranno.

Owner detailsDalghar: Hasn’t been placed for his new yard but valid excuses for all defeats, having been unfit on first occasion before finding himself on wrong side in Golden Jubilee; Pulled his chance away in July Cup and big claims if finding his best; Needs to settle early though.

Owner detailsDoncaster Rover: Well beaten in series of top races last season but more like it the last thrice, placed in decent events; More still needed and this probably too good for him.

Owner detailsRed Jazz: Tough and consistent horse all throughout last year, the highlight when winning the Challenge Stakes at the backend of last season; Good return when a nice third in UAE and also then when fifth in the Lockinge / Third in Summer Mile and back at 7f, should make a bold bid.

Owner detailsLibranno: Has refound his juvenile form at sprint trips lately, winning the Criterion Stakes well before an even better third in the July Cup last time; May struggle to confirm form with Delegator but should run well nevertheless.

Owner detailsMajestic Myles: Useful as 2yo but career best when battling back for a game victory over Desert Law in a tight finish in Newmarket handicap; Built on that when Listed winner last time but unlikely to trouble Strong Suit.

Owner detailsStrong Suit; Desperately disappointing in Greenham on return but has refound his juvenile form thanks to a breathing operation as he showed when winning Jersey Stakes before close Prix Jean Prat third; Should go close.

VERDICT: It’s very hard to choose between Strong Suit and DELEGATOR but the latter might have performed more admirably when coming from a horrid draw to finish fifth in the July Cup and as such, gets the vote here.
