2.45 Goodwood
Audi King George Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3YO plus)
Winner £48,204
Amour Propre: Failed to love upto the promise of his Palace House
Stakes win last season but first good run since August 2009 when only finding Masamah
too good late on at York; Can reverse that form although this is a much better
race
Group Therapy: Improved a ton for joining Noseda yard (now
with David Barron), fairly bolting up in conditions race at Beverley before
coming a close second at Sandown (decent event) and career best when second in last
year’s renewals; If finding that form, makes appeal.
Humidor: Winner of decent events here (twice) and also Ascot
in his last 6 runs but best effort came last time when third in Coral Charge,
although he did have things rather fall his way; Needs to do better here.
Kingsgate Native: Top class when at peak form, a prime
example Temple Stakes win last year (also past winner of Nunthorpe for past
yard); Didn’t match up to form for the rest of the year but still fourth in the
July and Betfred Sprint Cup; Beginning to look regressive but has had excuses
and one last chance in this field.
Masamah: Impressive when blitzing opposition at York and probably
in wrong place when eighth in Dash next time, as showed when once again coming
late and hard to win Listed event; Can do well again although will find it
harder to reel in second who has now had a run.
Noble Storm: Looked group class when winning handicap on
Return at Newbury (ran into two group class sorts last season too) and
impressive when wining Listed event latest; Can go well.
Rain Delayed: More than capable when he wants to run a big
race, but has been outclassed on the last three starts; Needs to find his best
again although race could be set up for him from pace perspective.
Beyond Desire: Actually beat Astrophysical Jet of all horses
quite convincingly when readily winning at Haydock in May and second in
Leopardstown Group 3 next time was good effort; One of three to benefit from
draw in Coral Charge last time out and needs to pull out more here should
things not fall so right for her.
Breathless Kiss: Has failed to improve on, or repeat his
quite impressive Beverley win in three starts since in pattern company; Hard to
imagine him suddenly winning now.
Golden Destiny: Possibly unsuited by coming wide when fourth
behind Masamah and Amour Propre at York latest; Has talent but seemingly
connection’s second string and others maybe stronger.
Swiss Diva: Nothing short of brilliant last season, steadily
progressing in recording a hat – trick of, all on soft ground, highlight when
trashing rivals in Prix Petit Couvert; Unplaced on last two starts and while
she would have enough to win if coming back to form, it seems that she must
have cut in the ground.
Stone Of Folca: Plenty of talent as juvenile when finishing in
places at Royal Ascot twice in week but failed to repeat that this season and
has shown some temperament problems of late before the start.
VERDICT: A fairly lacklustre turnout for a Group 2 prize. Amour
Propre looked like he was on the way back when beaten by Masamah last time and
may reverse form with the winner from that day, but it could pay to give one
last chance to KINGSGATE NATIVE. 3
winners since 2003 were unplaced on their last start, just as he was when
winning this two years ago. Swiss Diva can make a bold bid if getting the cut
in the ground she needs.
