2.40 Ascot
Angels Will Fall: Well backed before debut and able to quicken out of trouble and win with tons in hand at Windsor (second has won since); Could still do good deal better so must be respected seriously here.
Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes (Fillies' Group 3) (Class
1) (2YO only)
Winner £28,355
Pick: Russelliana (win)
Angels Will Fall: Well backed before debut and able to quicken out of trouble and win with tons in hand at Windsor (second has won since); Could still do good deal better so must be respected seriously here.
Betty Fontaine: Proven very successful in just over a month,
winning 3 out of her four races and scoring narrowly but decisively in conditions
company; Seems safely held on Cherry Hinton form though.
Luv U Forever: Made more than standard improvement when
winner of uncompetitive affair at Bath last time (seventh on debut) and while
she has held her form well in Group races this still looks a touch too classy
for her.
Miss Lahar: Out of depth in this and looks like a fairly
awkward type in any case (refused to enter stalls once).
Red Larkspur: Made a significant improvement from her debut
when winning in clear cut style at Kempton but put in her place behind Lily’s
Angel in Listed company last time.
Regal Realm: Created a promising impression when knuckling
down well to land a Newmarket maiden but nobody could predict how well the form
would have worked out (subsequent Cherry Hinton winner Gamilati in second,
Albany winner in third, several other winners behind); Leading claims here.
Russelliana: Showed taking amount of precocity for one bred
for middle distances (dam placed over 7f-1m at 3, half-sister to top-class
Notnowcato) when winning well at Leicester and very promsing effort when taking
second in Cherry Hinton Stakes; Has something to find with Regal Realm on that
basis but can make a bold bid for trainer with impeccable record in this (5
wins and 3 since 2000).
VERDICT: Strictly on form Regal Realm should win and win
with something in hand but it would be unwise to underestimate RUSSELLINA who looked
a filly with a future when coming late on the outside to claim second in the Cherry
Hinton last time out, and Angels Will Fall, who won in such taking style on
debut.
