Meld Stakes 2011

7.30 Leopardstown
Jockey Club Of Turkey Meld Stakes (group 3) (Class 1)  (3YO plus)
Winner €37,375

Pick: Famous Name (win)

Owner detailsFamous Name: Come close to landing Group 1’s twice before (finished second in the French Derby in 2008 and this race in 2009) & dominant as ever in Group & listed events to start this season; Easy winner last time and one to beat again here.

Owner detailsJan Vermeer: Never quite realized the potential that his easy Group 1 juvenile / 3yo debut wins suggested, but not at all disgraced in top classic events; Badly in need of the run when well behind Workforce on seasonal debut (given a lot to do) but disappointing when well beaten by Famous Name last time and 3lbs turnaround not likely to make a difference.

Owner detailsMorgan Gra: Formerly very useful juvenile (fourth in Coventry) who while having not reached that form, has been in good heart this year, winning handicaps here in May and at the Curragh in June; This far harder.

Owner detailsBlaze Brightly: Progressive at the beginning of the season, won minor event at Tipperary on reappearance before finding progressive Rose Bonheur too good for her; Found stiffer company too good last twice and hard to see her.

Owner detailsDunboyne Express: Showed potential stardom when slamming Samuel Morse to win Anglesey buy wide margin, and forgiven Racing Post Trophy fifth having had an interrupted preparation (form worked out); Returned with smooth win for easy task at Leopardstown but failed to build on that promise when running into only poor fifth in Irish Guineas & Derby; This far more suitable task and 3yo allowance makes him a real contender.

Owner detailsCreekside: Showed much potential when landing big-field maiden at Naas on debut and bettered that form when winning 4-runner handicap here in June; Well held on first foray into group company last time out and tough task again here.

VERDICT: With the expectation of the slightly disappointing Dunboyne Express, FAMOUS NAME has everything in this field covered and he should once again beat Jan Vermeer even on 3lbs worse terms.
