Epsom Dash 2013

The idea of the Derby is to find the best three-year-old horse in the UK, Ireland, and sometimes Europe, but the Epsom dash’s steeply natured course often finds the fastest horse in the UK – on the clock at least. In the appetiser before the Derby, the Epsom Dash sees horses come to the near side of the famous Down’s up the home straight, and the sloping nature and fierce pace means that the finishing time of the race is less than a minute – the hand timed record having been 54 seconds.

The best horse in the UK Confessional is not, but a neck second in 2011 and a hampered fifth in this last year suggest that he enjoys this unique test and now just 3lbs higher than for last year's effort, he looks to big to potentially bolster Derby coffers at 18/1 with Bet365, who pay 1/4 a place for the first five home.

Advice

1 pt each/way Confesional, 3.10 Epsom (18/1 Bet365)
