Having spoken about how competitive the battle for the
jockey’s title is, some may sniff at a suggestion of backing Aidan O’Brien at
4/7 for the top trainer accolade but there’s far less competition amongst the
yards than the jockeys and Ballydoyle look to be brining as strong a battalion
as ever to the meeting.
Today alone they have Declaration of War (Queen Anne),
Magician and Mars (St James’s Palace), Stubbs, Sir John Hawkins and War Command
(Coventry), Justification and Marchese Marconi (Ascot Stakes), and Fountain of
Youth and Wilshere Boulevard in the Windsor Castle. Now not all of those are
going to win, but the countback system often ends up deciding where the honour
goes and he has place and win chances with more than one runner on multiple times
today.
Through the rest of the week he saddles Gale Force Ten,
Camelot, Coach House, Battle Of Marengo, Mars, and Leading Light and plenty of
other minor chances as well, and it would be disappointing if he couldn’t land
at least three winners and hhe should have a stack of places to his name.
Richard Hannon boats similar firepower but his juvenile
monopoly can be challenged by Ballydoyle in races like the Coventry and Chesham
while the all aged talent he has is arguably not on the same level. John Gosden
doesn’t have the depth of his ranks last year, but he still brings more than a
few good chances to the table and if having just one winner, can be there or
thereabouts with plenty to like about him.
The 16’s about Sir Michael Stoute – who hasn’t had a Group 1
winner since Workforce’s Arc but is at least building some depth in the ranks –
tempts given the progressive Pavolva and Sir John Hawkins later in the week to
add to Duke of Firenze in the Wokingham, is also tempting although his chances
of places look to few and far between
Any win for Lady Cecil this week would be cheered like no
other but the thought of her being top trainer is not abnormal at 33/1. Warren
Palace is In superb form and can count Tiger Cliff, Chigun, Riposte, and Joyuse
amongst realistic chances this week.
In the specials market, the number of International winners
market has sadly gone down – 3 or more was looking to have a strong shout at
12/1 – and the favourites index may be worth buying on day 1 with plenty of
strong shouts.
Advice
4 pts win Aidan O’Brien (4/7 Stan James, Coral)
