Royal Ascot 2013 - Norfolk Stakes

2.30 Royal Ascot (Day 3, Race 1)

Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1)  (2YO only)
Winner £45,368

Advice: 1 pt win Coach House (11/4 general)

Owner detailsAmbiance: Never able to land a proper blow on Newbury maiden debut, but clearly liked to go off just 3/1 and learned a lot from that to win Ripon maiden in good style; Will find the pace even hotter here though and others preferred.

Owner detailsCoach House: Trainer having plenty of successes with juveniles this year and this one looked to be near the top of the bunch when landing Tipperary maiden by 6 & ½ lengths and then Listed event in good style at Curragh latest, with solid yardstick in second (since won maiden after Listed third); Should take the beating here.

Owner detailsCoulsty: Bolted up by five lengths after being backed into favouritism last month at Leicester, a maiden which is working out well with the second and fourth having won since; Will be involved today and obvious contender.

Owner detailsEccleston: Justified heavy market support at Doncaster (5f, good to soft) when quickening very nicely to get himself out of trouble and win decisively in the end; Exciting prospect after that and deserves close attention for all this is a step up in class.

Owner detailsEmirates Flyer: Landed a big gamble in 5f Bath maiden when always in control despite hanging right, and subsequent wins of second and fourth gives boost to form; Interesting for all this is much harder.

Owner details
Extreme Supreme: This too much on debut despite fairly promising pedigree.

Owner detailsGreen Door: Bought by Qatar racing after promising fourth on debut in strong Newbury maiden (fourth despite hanging badly) and made all in good style at Newmarket when Wind Fire  (same ownership, eyecatcher, winner since) was well behind; Can go on from that and hard to dismiss here.

Owner detailsIfwecan: Made amends for disappointing debut (7/4 favourite, only fifth), when landing C&D maiden and improved again when he had too much to do in Listed event last time, but this a bigger ask and others preffered.

Owner detailsLegnd Rising: Turned over on debut when 5 length second at 8/11 but won his next two, impressive last time as price suggested that he should do at Chepstow over 6; No surprise to see Hughes preferring Coulsty to him and others preferred.

Owner detailsNo Nay Never: Thought to be best chance of two time winner here and Juvenile specialist Wesley Ward, having impressed when clocking a solid time in professional fashion at Keenland on debut; Will be aiming to lead them all a merry dance from the front and will take good deal of catching, for all that he wouldn’t want any rain.

Owner detailsOriental Relation: Sure to improve for his debut third at Leicester, but didn’t hint at being group class there and looks out of his depth.

Owner detailsRoyal Meezan: Looks sure to win sooner rather than later following fourth to Ifwecan and then second at York in decent maiden as favourite; This looks too tough for him off face value and others make more appeal.

Owner detailsSaayer: Defeat of Sascha Park on debut in good style says much for him, and to be fair to him did well to land odds at Winsdor in conditions race, but looked for all the word there as if he’d be more comfortable over 6 furlongs when nosing out previous and subsequent winner; This course should suit down to the ground but worry that he might do best work too late.

Owner detailsWind Fire: Eyecather behind Green Door (who has since been purchased by Qatar Racing) on debut before putting away three next time out winners in style at Sailsbury, suggesting that this level wasn’t beyond him; Clsoely matched with oither from same ownership and interesting.

VERDICT: The ground was rattling fast yesterday but at the time of writing there was plenty of rain forecast to fall from the early morning until the start of racing. Plenty of intrigue in this renewal, with maiden winners Eccleston and Coulsty high on the list, but COACH HOUSE looked to be developing into a crack sprinter at the Curragh and will take the beating for an on fire Ballydoyle yard if in the same form as he was at the Curragh when winning a Listed event in style  when last seen. No Nay Never, commonly thought to be the best of the Wesley Ward challengers this week, will take some catching but needs the ground as fast as possible.
