12.40 Punchestown
Paul Carberry Autobiography Best Seller Hurdle (4YO plus)
Winner €13,000
Advice: 3 pts win So Young (4/6 general)
Fully Funded: Looked a horse with a future when winning
Grade 2 novice hurdle impressively; Didn’t quite go on from that despite
running into decent opposition on many occasions; Return in Lismullen hurdle
should have put him spot on for that and should go well.
Datokepe: Solid stayer and good in the summer, when winning maiden
hurdle with fair bit of ease and then following up with conditions hurdle win
on unsuitable ground (best on soft/heavy); Would be interesting if sent on into
lead but other makes more appeal.
So Young: Easy winner of ordinary 2m4f maiden hurdle on
debut in December& again faced
weakish opposition when winning without being asked a serious question in a 2m
novice event at Punchestown; Both performances impressive though, so backed as
if defeat was out of question in Neptune Novices Hurdle (sent off 2/1 fav) and
throwing down strong challenge when ending chances with blunder at the last;
Well below par (probably amiss) when beaten at Punchestown but looks to be the
best of these.
Askanna: Turned her general consistency (winner of 5 of her
9 starts under Rules) into a big when when defying odds of 33/1 to land end of
season Grade 2 at Punchestown festival; Interesting but faces three decent
sorts.
VERDICT: An intriguing opener. SO YOUNG shapes as much the
best of these based on his two impressive wins and Cheltenham festival third –
It can be safely assumed that he was well over the top when disappointing at
the Punchestown festival. He should beat Fully Funded into second.
