West With The Wind: Served notice of how useful he is when
beating useful Irish Chaser Loosen My Load at Listowel, going on from some way
out and not ever being reeled in; Has to be a danger to all today in that mood.
Gauvain: Jumped into the headlines here with 4 length win
over Forpadydepleaster in this race a year ago and while he didn’t quite build
on that, no shame in subsequent efforts; Should go well here again.
Woolcombe Folly: Mooted by some as a serious Champion Chase
contender when romping away with strong handicap here last December; Didn’t go
on after that but retains an element of promise after good comeback run (for
which he should improve) and getting weight from top two, he can go well.
Chaninbar: Has talent to run a big race if he consents to
start (refused 3 times in a row before close second to French Opera in
Celebration Chase); Far too many question marks for my liking though.
Kinkeel: Out of his depth.
VERDICT: This small field will suit West With The Wind and
Gauvain but WOOLCOMBE FOLLY is given the chance to get back on track following
an encouraging effort at Chepstow and getting weight from the top two, he gets
the vote here.
