4.00 Cheltenham
Cleanevent Standard Open NH Flat Race (Listed) (Class
1) (4YO to 6YO)
Winner £6,264
Advice: 1 pt win Montbazon (6/4 general)
Cross Of Honour: Made all the running from halfway when
winning his bumper at Carlisle last month; That race probably had little
strength in depth and others taken over him.
Heavenstown: Found plenty for pressure when successful at Fffos
Las first time, building up on placed effort in Irish point before then (and
bumper debut on Rules); This demands far more.
Jimbill: Won maiden point before dismissing rivals with 13 length
unextended bumper success; Far harder tasks here but can’t be dismissed out of
hand.
Koko Lane: Given an awful lot to do at Gowran Park on second
run and made no mistake when grinding things out at Downpatrick since; Yard
should be feared in this but looks a stayer.
Montbazon: One of the leading bumper performers of last
season, being run out of things only by Cheltenian (went onto win Champion
Bumper) before running out an impressive winner of Sales race last year; Beaten
by Steps To Freedom who himself is already unbeaten over hurdles and should go
really well before then going hurdling.
Mumbo Jumbo: East winner of newcomers bumper at Gowran and
respected coming over here but form from that reads; 5 runs, 0 wins (0 horses),
0 placed, 5 unplaced, with three of those coming from horses in first five,
which is disconcerting.
One Term: Made it third time unlucky when winning at
Chepstow and needs far more here, given how he was allowed to dictate matters
from the front; This harder.
Salubrious: Strongly supported when hammering his field by
21 lengths at Stratford, and then sold to Paul Nicholls after that; No surprise
to see him go well and yard have good record in this.
Canadian Dreamer: Half-brother
to bumper winner Forty Foot and useful stable shouldn’t be treated with
anything other than the utmost respect, but then again would be special to win
this.
Catch Tammy: Only beaten a neck at 40/1 when making debut behind
Clondaw Warrior in C&D bumper last month; Could offer more yet but needs a
lot more to trouble some of these.
Josh’s Dreamway: Produced 50/1 shock on debut at Stratford,
but now showed that to be no fluke when winning again at Uttoxeter in May; Yard’s
strike rate nothing short of unbelievable.
Supreme Carolina: Made an impressive start in mares bumpers
when winning by 6 and a half lengths and then not disgraced when second in
better event at Punchestown, drawing clear of third who has since come third in
Graded hurdle; Of interest.
VERDICT: It should be very hard to beat MONTBAZON, who was
just about the best bumper performer last season give or take one or two classy
performers. Salubrious will be of obvious interest given connections although
Supreme Carolina appeal as the one to back from the Irish charge coming over.
