Newbury Hennessy Meeting 2011 - The Berkshire Novices' Chase

1.35 Newbury
Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase (Registered As The Berkshire Novices' Chase) (Grade 2) (Class 1)  (4YO plus)
Winner £13,668

Advice: 1 pt win Bobs Worth (5/6 general)

Owner detailsCue Card: Star bumper horse and then good novice hurdler (disappointed some after impressive win in Grade 2 hurdle), fourth in the Supreme Novices Hurdle and then second at Aintree (not helped by unwillingness to settle); Impressive debut win followed by fall at Cheltenham when still going OK and very soon to write off over fences.

Owner detailsMad Moose: Completed hat trick in summer before then being exposed in decent handicap company; Caught late on having looked sure to win at Cheltenham and then left into second when several others disappointed at Wincanton last time; This should prove too good for him.

Owner detailsBobs Worth: Undisputed top staying hurdler of last season, following up impressive Grade 2 win at Cheltenham with Festival success in Albert Bartlett, always travelling strongly before beating highly regarded stablemate; Looks like a potential top recruit; Gets weight from top two here and very interesting.

Owner detailsSprit River: Developed into a very talented hurdler, and showed his class when romping home in Coral Cup at Cheltenham Festival; Looked a top prospect for chasing but fell heavily twice and very much on rebuilding mission following dismal effort in Cleeve Hurdle; Potentially very interesting if retaining his talent.

VERDICT: This seems like a perfect race for Cue Card, who probably still has a lot to give over fences. It’s hard to think that BOBS WORTH can’t give him a race getting 7lbs however, and with that in mind, he gets the vote. Spirit River is a fascinating prospect if taking to fences after a poor season last year.
