1.30 Longchamp
Total Prix Marcel Boussac (Fillies' Group 1) (Class 1) (2YO only)
Winner €171,630
Advice: 1 pt win Peace Burg (11/4 general)
Flotilla: Left with far too much to do when fifth behind
Peace Burg latest, having been brought too wide to challenge; Highly rated before
that off the back her impressive 7f Clairefontaine win in July but does need to
find quite an amount to improve enough to win.
Purr Along: Bare form of May Hill second will see her go
extremely close here and terrific attitude should stand her in good stead for
this test but no idea how she’ll cope with the ground today; That’s main
question.
Peace Burg: Unbeaten in three starts, beating subsequent Listed
winner Alterite at Deauville before knuckling down to land Prix D’Amule at
Chantilly latest, with Meri Shaka and Flotiila behind (also didn’t have best of
runs); That came on soft surface and had won on even more testing ground the
time before, so has to be high on the list here
Alterite: Gave a ready four length beating to Oasis Cannes (while
getting 3lbs in return) at Craon in Listed contest last time but that only
after she was beaten fair and square by Peace Burg at Deavuille; Might be
thereabouts but others make more appeal.
Meri Shika: Clear cut winner on heavy ground at
Clairefontaine in August but well held both times since, finishing well behind Peace
Burg when the two last met
Agent Allison: Hugely impressive start to career when
winning by seven lengths (6f, good) on Pontefract debut, justifying the strong
support that she received late on; Much better at the end of the race than the
start and gave overriding impression that mile was well within her compass from
coming from back of pace to claim second in Albany having been outpaced at
halfway; Respected.
Topaze Blanche: Won Chantilly maiden (7f) and 1m 5 runner
event in Saint Cloud in style of a horse who had more to give and groups to discount
but this a dramatic change in ground and big step up in class; Others make more
appeal.
Silasol: Same connections have Single (who was second in
Prix D’Amula behind Peace Burg); Lifeless debut but different start when winning
6 runner conditions event over C&D when just
My Special J’s: Had been impressive before complete blowout
in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and does have Group 2 Debuante Stakes win on soft
to her name; If back to her best, foolish to write off.
VERDICT: If Purr Along is as effective on this ground as she
is on a quicker surface then she’ll be mightily hard to beat but this is a
dramatic change in conditions and in any case, she has a very decent rival in
PEACE BURG to deal with, who has twice won on testing ground and looked to have
a future when winning the Prix D’Amule despite a very troubled passage. The
other raiders, Agent Allison and My Special J’s, deserve respect because of
their strong soft ground form, with Agent Allison in particular looking as if
she’d relish this trip at Royal Ascot although she hasn’t been seen since.
