1 pt win The Gold Cheongsam, 2.15 Newmarket (9/2 general)
Ryan Moore has made it back in just the nick of time to partner
Sea Moon in the Arc De Triomphe and he can start his return to the sale in the
best possible way by partnering The Gold Cheongsam to victory in the
Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies’ trophy. Once a very eye-catching fifth in the
Albany, Jeremy Nosdeda’s filly met her first defeat since when last in the Cheveley
Park here last Saturday, but never got a chance to show her true colours after
being blocked for her run and made to switch several times at the business end
of a race that developed into a rapid sprint late on. It could have been that
she wasn’t upto competing at Group 1 level, but this is a far weaker event and
while she might be exposed, she has a success at this level on the board and
can go very close at the least.
1 pt each/way Tamayuz Star, 2.50 Newmarket (11/1 general)
Richard Hannon’s Havana Gold is sure to be a very popular choice
to extend his record to 5 wins in 6 runs but stablemate Tamayuz Star may well
be the biggest threat towards the favourite’s chances. Havana Gold may already
be confirmed as a Group horse following his C&D success last time outside
and that form gives him a great chance but this is arguably a stiffer test when
you think that he has to face Vintage Stakes fifth Ghurair, impressive maiden
winner Race and Status, and Group 3 winner Olle Olga, along with his stablemate
who managed to run Royal Lodge winner Steeler down to just a head over 7
furlongs at Goodwood (in a listed race which has also been boosted by many
others) before winning a sales race over 6f here last time, where he clearly
needed the step up back to 7 furlongs back to help him once again. With that in
his favour today – should he handle the ground – then he looks sure to go close
once again here.
1 pt win Soul, 3.05 Ascot (7/2 general)
Rodger Charlton’s Mince has been one of the most progressive
horses of the season and should go close to landing her first Group race in the
John Guest Bengough Stakes but she might face her toughest test in the shape of
Goldolphin’s Soul, who has disappointed badly the last twice but smashed Firebeam
by four easy lengths the last time he got ground with any kind of cut in it.
That may have been heavy, but this soft ground should be to his liking and he
deserved a chance to atone for his two most recent performances.
