1 pt win Jungle Beat, 3.15 Windsor (8/1 general)
John Gosden’s yard seem to be in flying form at the moment
and it could be well worth giving another chance to his Jungle Beat in the 3.15
at Windsor today. A very smooth winner of his only start at 2, he’s
disappointed badly this season but has had his excuses, proving too keen and
coltish (as anyone would have seen in the paddock beforehand) when making his reappearance
at Newmarket in a Listed race) and it’s evident that he didn’t like the soft
ground when only seventh at the same track next time in a race that has
produced two Royal Ascot winners in the shape of Thomas Chippendale and Fennell
Bay.
With the blinkers on for the first time today – not a bad
thing with this yard – and also a return to better ground, he looks to have a
better chance than odds of 8/1 would suggest even against a strong field of
some choicely unexposed types.
1 pt each/way Gathering (12/1 Stan James), 3.15 Chantilly
The Aga Khan has a top group of fillies this year and it’s
no surprise to see Ridasiyina – who was so impressive when winning the Prix
Mesliande at Masions Laffite after an easy win on her debut on French Guineas
day - heading the market for him once again in the Prix Chloe, but dropping
back a furlong and starting from stall 13 around Chantilly’s round course may
not prove to be a help and it’s enough of a worry to look past her at just 5/4
in a competitive field.
John Gosden’s Gathering, a good third in the Height Of
Fashion Stakes at Goodwood behind Coquet when last seen (herself unlucky in the
Oaks to be just sixth) could be one to take her on with today given the form of
the stable – Just had Gregorian into second in the Prix Jean Prat – and the
fact that she could come on significantly for that run being her first of the
season, like many of the stable have done this season. In the latter stages of
a strongly run race at Goodwood, it’s notable how she tried and rolled around a
little late on, while she may also be suited by a drop back in trip today.
Stall 9 is a slight worry but if coming on for her first run and being ridden
with a touch more restraint today (she followed a very hard pace set by Estrela
at Goodwood ) she can take the beating. There are several good fillies in this
race and Romantica may well be another one to watch closely for too, having won
well on her second start last time and being stunningly bred by a family that’s
sure to improve for what she’s done.
