2.55 Haydock
bet365 Lancashire Oaks (Fillies' Group 2) (Class 1) (3YO plus)
Winner £45,368
Advice: 2 pt win Set To Music (7/2 general), 1 pt win
Testosterone (6/1 Stan James)
Aquamarine: Good chance on her Group 3 win in testing ground
at Chantilly and she is one who should be fine on the ground, as she’s got
three wins on a testing surface; Disappointing behind Solemia at Saint Cloud
latest and that would be worry but good chance anyway.
Mohedian Lady: Fourth
in Group 3 here over C&D on last start, and improvement on poor form shown
towards backend of last season; On on soft as 2yo but main worry that she’s
held by Shimmering Surf and Set To Music latest and don’t see that form being reversed;
Myplacelater: Went down narrowly in Chester Group 3 in May
but failedto build on that when wel below form and last of six behind Set To
Music at Warwick latest and best of 2011 form has her behind some of the best
of these.
Set To Music: Improved a lot last year in short pace of
time, taking the Galtres Stakes in the style of a good horse before second in
Park Hill at Doncaster (non-stayer late on);Progressive once again this season,
needing opening run badly in top quality contest before then being unlucky when
getting poor run and being given too much to do when second here over C&D
early last month; Easy win at Listed level last time and big chance.
Shimmering Surf: Improved markedly for new yard this season
when pushing very smart Vita Nova (bordering on Group 1 class) all the way in
Listed race at Goodwood on return and then beating Set To Music here in Group
3; Form chance once again here and ground no problem so respected here.
Testosterone: New inmate at Ed Dunlop Stable having been
second in the Vermellie after winning two Group races at 1m4f last season, both
from the front, one on very deep ground; Moved yards after being well beaten in
Arc and all but last n return in Hardwicke, but clearly needed that, this a
drop in class(relatively), and sure to go well with booking of Grhama Lee as
good as one could get with Murtagh absent.
Good Morning Star: 50/1 winner of Chester Oaks on this
ground after several beaten efforts in 70’s in handicap company; Not upto that
in other efforts so very hard to like her properly today.
Great Heavens: Comfortable winner of heavy Yarmouth maiden
on reappearance when well backed and same story (this time on better ground)
when winning Listed race at Newbury with fair bit of ease latest; This demands
more but excellent family (Sister to yard´s King George winner Nathaniel) is
likely to see her improve once again
Salford Art: Steady improvement until dramatic rise in
performance saw her come late and hard iin Ribblesdale for fourth; Even then still
well behind the leaders and once again and needs more here while the last
winner from the Ribbledale was in 1992.
VERDICT: A classy
renewal with all of the market leaders able to go on the ground. SET TO MUSIC
had looked unlucky not to win the Pinnacle Stakes when failing to claw back
Shimmering Surf, but she gained quick compensation in good style at Warwick and
looks to have an excellent chance again, with testing ground not a problem to
her, for all that she’s not encountered ground this heavy yet. TESTOSTERONE was
second in the Vermellie on a heavy surface – following two excellent wins in
well contested Group races – last year and with valid excuses for his two
defeats since, she’s got to be given an excellent chance here. Great Heavens
looks like a really progressive type and is taking the best route for 3yos to
this race (and one that in form trainer John Gosden has taken before) so is
feared, although this is a step up for her.
