Today's Racing - 13th July 2012

3 pts win Sentaril, 2.35 York (6/4 general)

Kelly Harrison has had an excellent start to life on the jockeys circuit this season – eight winners so far at a strike rate double that of last season - and it’s likely she’ll never have a better chance of a group winner than Sentaril in today’s Summer Stakes at York.

Deeply impressive when romping away with her Newbury maiden , she didn’t need to improve to land a conditions stakes with ease at Doncaster but we really saw her talent when she was a close but desperately unlucky second in what looked like a ridiculously strong renewal of the Jersey Stakes (the frm of which has already been boosted by . Out the back after making a poor break from the gate, she was keen and nearly last of 22 early, but after getting a clear run too late, she made ground hand over fist to finish and unlucky loser down the near side to the brilliantly ridden Ishavana. This is a drop in trip but I expect it to have no effect and she should take the beating if able to run to the same level.

1 pt win Margot Did, 2.35 York (10/1 general)

If there is one horse that has the talent at her best to challenge or even beat her, then it’s Margot Did, who has had a shocking season so far but is the only Group 1 winner in the field, who has an excellent soft ground record. A winner of the Nunthrope at 20/1 6 starts ago, she’s not done any better than eighth since, but most of her starts have been in high class sprints and this has got to be the best opportunity on paper she’s had for a good while.

Back last year when in form, Margot did was at least 5lbs better off on a softer surface than not – see her contrasting performances over Sandown’s 5f course on good and soft ground – and her win in the Nunthrope came on ground that many had been calling very tacky and testing ground all week at York, and while that was over a furlong shorter, she should be fine at 6f and looks to be the best backup here.

Of the others, Boastful obviously has a decent chances with the superb Graham Lee on board and the fact that she showed her Listed win to be no fluke when second to Maarek in heavy ground last time (having looked the winner for a little while) although she may have handled the ground better than others that day, while Radio Gaga, My Girl Anna and Hallelujah can be given an outside chance today although they don’t quite make the appeal of the two picks.
