1 pt win, 1 pt each/way Farhaan, 4.00 Sandown (7/1 general)
Crackerjack King’s latest Group 1 win will get a good
testing before the Coral Eclipse when Afsare – second in the Capannelle Premio
Presidente Della Repubblica to Marco Botti’s import – takes a shot at landing
his first win since Royal Ascot 2010 in the Gala Stakes today. He looks to have
a first rate chance with that run under his belt for Luca Cumani and Kieren
Fallon, but he might not have things all his own way and John Dunlop’s 3yo
Farhaan looks to be worth a wager to topple him.
A progressive 2 year old until flopping in a good renewal of
the Royal Lodge Stakes (the 3 Ballydoyle horses who filled the places had all won
or placed in pattern company before or previously) when clearly not at his
best, he returned in good style when fourth in the Fairway Stakes on his debut,
an effort which at that the time had credit, but it has since proven to be even
better in hindsight, with Thought Worthy and Noble Mission going on to prove
good middle distance colts at Group 2 level. Farhaan was just a couple of
lengths behind them that day and while he was most likely faltered to get so
close, it was a good effort on his seasonal debut and he looks to have a
stronger chance of winning this than odds of 7/1 would suggest.
Songcraft was one of Godolphin’s best horses during the
Dubai Carnival, travelling better than a handicapper when winning two handicaps
by small margins before a good third in the City Of Gold, while he can easily
be forgiven his eighth in a competitive Duty Free. If as good back in the UK,
he must have a good chance here, while Tazahum is much better than his seasonal
effort suggests, although he had been looking exposed towards the end of last
season.Cai Shen’s sixth in the Hunt Cup in last time out, that being off a mark
of 105, is an excellent piece of form and given that he’s much better at this
trip, but preference is for the 1st winning 3yo in this since 2007.
