2.20 Ayr
Scottish Sun Future Champion Novices' Chase (Grade 2) (Class
1) (5YO plus)
Winner £17,103
Pick: Giorgio Quercus (win)
Giorgio Quercus: Promoted to finish ahead of Dan Breen on
third chasing start (form boosted since); Well beaten in Arkle but this much
easier and trip will suit, so strong chance.
Premier Sagas: Making very decent headway this season,
having won two races in easy style (dotted up from useful horse second last
run); Disappointed at the festival in Novices Handicap Chase but this test
easier and may go well with easy lead.
Stagecoach Pearl: Has won 4 out of his last 5 races in
handicaps, winning by 15 lengths off 140 when he was left clear at the last; Well
beaten second behind Finian’s Rainbow in Grade 2 at Warwick and nearly last in
Arkle.
Gilbarry: Interesting on form with Dan Breen at Bangor,
conceding 7lbs and blundering four out; Unable to cut much ice in the Maghull
but that much stronger contest, although he’ll need to be better to do so here.
Nadiya De La Vega: Is two from two over fences here, bolting
up in useful race at Warwick before getting better of useful rival after
belting the second last at Kempton; Disappointed on next two starts but this
just the type of race she like (small field) and worth another chance.
Sam Lord: Well behind The Knoks last time having made a
massive blunder 5 out and this would appear to be too tough again.
Soft Spoken Guy: Drew steadily clear from two out when
winning last time but that 12 days ago and this much harder.
VERDICT: Not a strong renewal and a good opportunity for GIORGIO
QUERCUS for get back to winning ways following on from a good effort in the
Arkle last time.
