Newmarket Craven Meeting - Blue Sq Fielden Stakes

4.45 Newmarket
Blue Square Feilden Stakes (Listed) (Class 1)  (3YO only)
Winner £17,031

Pick: Specific Gravity (win)

Toolain: Was set for perfect start in 7f maiden at Sandown when veering left and unseating inside final 1f (fortunate winner second in Superlative Stakes); Ran well enough in two  group events but looked awkward both times and vulnerable to more progressive horses under penalty.

Dordogone: Made a very good impression when making a winning start in 9f Goodwood maiden, readily drawing clear of subsequent winner; Not disappointing in better race last time (winner considered good enough to run in Breeders Cup)

Fulgur: Looked like type to make a three year old every inch of last year, breaking maiden after two decent efforts in defeat; Looked like quite an impressive prospect on final start, and no surprise to see him go close here.

Happy Today: Was very taking fourth behind Biondetti (better than result says) and won well despite not handling Bath’s tight turns on second, last juvenile start; Yard specialises in making very good horses out of this type; Has solid shout.

Moriarty: Improved with every start last season, winning Convivial Stakes at Ebor meeting in good style and taking valuable conditions contest afterwards; Likely to have more to come this year and reportedly grown well, so big chance.

Specific Gravity: Very green when making late headway into fourth on Yarmouth maiden (started late; September); Showed benefit of that when bolting in over same trip next time out and has bright prospect here, as plenty more to come and step up in trip should prove good for him.

Musharakaat: Fillies’ Mile entry who created good impression when winning 13 runner AW maiden easily travelling well out wide and quickening ahead in final 2f; Put in place when fifth to White Moonstone in Newmarket Group 3 but third in May Hill and improvement; Looked exposed when well beaten in sales race last time and this not an easy seasonal debut.

VERDICT: A fascinating bunch of high class prospects turning out for what should be an informative guide. SPECFIC GRAVITY, from a yard who do so well with long term prospects, is taken to beat Happy Today and Fulgur
