3.30 Newmarket
150,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint (Class 2) (3YO only)
Winner £83,654
Pick: Neebras (win)
Aqulilfier: Has landed a hat – trick of handicaps on the AW
this season, all of them at a mile; Beaten in slowly run race but has a lot to
prove down in trip in this quality of field.
Cruiser: One and only win last year came on a soft surface,
after close fourth in sales race last year; Disappointing behind Fury on last
run at two, and has a lot of work to do if he’s to be winning this, for all he
has a decent place shout on his best.
Neebreas: Made highly encouraging debut for David Lanigan at
Newbury last May before landing odds comfortably and finishing second in July
Stakes, hanging badly left at finish; Off since and would need to be straight here,
but the outstanding horse in field.
Rafaaf: Didn't show enough on debut in Wolverhampton
maiden to think he would be winning in a race like this.
Shafgaan: Mixed fortunes in sales races at the backend of
last season, appearing to lack for pace when well beaten behind Zebdee and I Love
Me, and much the same story behind Fury.
Sir Reginald: Travelled smoothly when finding only smart
Elzaam too strong on debut and went some way to confirming promise of that run,
third in Gimcrack and not far behind I Love Me and Group 1 winner Wootton
Bassett; Not seen since finishing well beaten behind Fury here but better
ground here the key; Should go well fresh for bang in form.
Button Moon: Real crack sprinter as a 2 year old, unable to
last over 5 furlongs so fast was he in the Super Sprint; Pushed Zebedee to a
head in sales race but not gone on after that and no real chance here.
Instance: Very well backed to win Kempton maiden and landed money
in game style; Would need to improve plenty on bare form but as such a prospect
really should do so and trainer/jockey s combination is ominous.
Khor Sheed: Showed promise on taking debut and confirmed
that when stepping up to take listed event on July course, scoring with
something in hand; Ran well in defeat behind White Moonstone and when taking
similar event over C&D; Ground too soft on final start and has a good
chance of making winning debut here.
Madany: Took two of first four races as a juvenile (maiden
and nursery over 6f at Haydock) and probably improved form of that when third
in Ebor meeting Nursery; Has failed to make impact in both sales race starts,
so not fancied here.
Masaya: Was out of depth in Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, and
looked exposed last time when second in nursery off lightweight; Clearly that
not the case, as her group/sales race placed efforts have shown, and did win
similar race last year.
Shim Sham: Well beaten in Rockfel (raced very keenly) but
would have to be taken seriously on her defeat of UAE Oaks/Derby winner Kawlah;
Made all that day and may be happier at this trip, so one to consider.
VERDICT: NEEBRAS will need to be pretty fit to take this
first time out, and it’s slightly disconcerting how he hung when making his challenge
in the July Stakes, but he’s the clear standout horse in the field and should
be going very close here. Khor Sheed, unsuited by soft ground on her last start
as a 2 year old should be close, while Shim Sham should make a bold bid from
the front. The same applies to Sir Reginald, who is seen as the biggest threat.
