World Cup Qualifers 2012 - 7th Sept 2012

Modolva (12) v England (1/3)

Whatever you make of England’s performances at Major tournaments, barring Euro 2008 they’ve never had a problem reaching them and this is the easiest group they could have asked for on the road to Rio. Moldova haven’t scored in six of their last seven matches – and that came against San Marino  - so to see evens being offered about a win with a clean sheet is a surprise.

Advice: 3 pts England to win to nil (evens Ladbrokes)

Wales (15/4) v Belgium (8/11)

Wales have made great steps forward as a side in in the past two years but so have Belgium, who now hold one of the most talented squads on paper in Europe and looked to have put it all together when beating Holland 4-2. Wales aren’t to be underestimated in Cardiff but have failed to find the net in their last three matches, and are facing a steep test of their talent with Bellamy, Neil Taylor, and Wayne Hennnessy all out. Belgium are shorter but still make the most appeal of the two in match betting.

Advice: 2 pts Belgium (8/11 Bet365)

Russia (2/9) v Northern Ireland (18)

Russia somehow managed to go out of the Euros at the first round of asking but they played some of the best football of the tournament and even without the likes of Andrei Arshavin, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Pavel Pogrebnyak (omitted by Fabio Capello in his first game in charge) Yuri Zhirkov and Sergei Semak (injured), they should destroy Northern Ireland, who are the weakest of the home nations by some way and are now seven games without a win.  Northern Ireland lost to Italy, Norway and Holand without scoring and look likely to do the same here – remembering that they only let in 4 goals on the way to Euro 2012.

Advice: 2 pts Russia to win to nil (10/11 Blue Sq)

Kazakhstan (5) v Ireland (8/11)

Ireland were sent with the trails between their legs at the Euros but those were three of Europe’s elite, and if not scarred by that experience, they should have more than enough to see of Kazakhstan on the road. Giovanni Trapattoni’s pragmatic style has made Ireland a force to be reckoned with in qualifying situation and they are more than capable of taking 3 points.

Advice: 2 pts Ireland (8/11 general)

Colombia (7/5) V Uruguay (9/4)

Lying second behind leaders Chile with a game in hand, Uruguay are still the only unbeaten team in the ultra-competitive South American qualifying group for World Cup 2014, and they look well worth backing to beat Colombia to small stakes. Colombia haven’t won against the Uruguayans since 2004 and the gap between the two means 9/4 is well worth taking.

Advice: 1 pt Uruguay (9/4 general)
