2.30 York
Jaguar Cars Lowther Stakes (Fillies' Group 2) (Class 1) (2YO only)
Winner £61,380
Advice: 1 pt win Angels Will Fall (4/1 general)
Best Terms: Plenty of promise when making a cosy winning
debut and making all to beat subsequent winner easily by 2 lengths in 3-runner
Newbury minor event; Game winner of Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, form
which has been boosted since; This harder under a penalty but respected
considerably with step up in trip sure to suit.
Gamilati: Came second in an exceptionally strong maiden
which has produced the Albany winner (Samitar, 3rd) the Chesham third (Self
Centered, 5th) & a 17 length winner next time (My Propeller, 8th); Pure bad
luck to get headed by stablemate and Group 3 winner, making marked improvement when
winning Cherry Hinton Stakes with something to spare latest; Should go well.
After: Beneficiary of Ryan Moore at his best when wining
maiden here and improved effort when finding only speedy Fire Lily too good in
the Anglesey Stakes last time; Well beaten in Phoenix Stakes and this no easier.
Angels Will Fall: Well backed before debut, able to quicken
out of trouble and win with tons in hand at Windsor before following up in the
Princess Marget Stakes, beating rock – sold form stick with loads in hand; Gets
weight from 2 main players in this and should go well.
Caledonia Lady: Ran massively above herself when third (fast
closing) in the Queen Mary but hasn’t backed that up much since and passed over
here.
Fire Lily: Slowly away, green early and also unable to get a
clear run until later stages when quickening smartly to beat decent pair at
Navan on debut; Improved when third in strong Listed event, fourth in Queen
Mary; Winner of Group 3 on yielding ground with plenty to spare and can take a
big hand.
Hello Glory: Shaped really well in a steadily run big –
field Newmarket from a poor position having been held up and you couldn’t have
been more impressed with her Ascot win; This a different test though.
Intetrobil: Backed like a good thing and won in same style
when running out 6 length winner of Redcar maiden despite having dwelt in the
stalls; Travelled like one of the best in the race before getting chinned close
home by winner on soft ground in Albany but readily held in Cherry Hinton and unlikely
she’ll reverse that form.
Lady Gorgeous: Ran around just a bit when headed out of
things on her racecourse debut and looked a much improved horse when getting
there in plenty of time and over turning and odds – on hotpot.
Shumoos: Made most impressive debut seen by a British 2yo
this year when spreadeagling Haydock maiden opposition (form rock solid); Beaten
by only a short head in Queen Mary, quickening but finding one too good; Again
beaten fair and square in Cherry Hinton and might be vulnerable even on 3lbs
better terms.
Sunday Terms: This a different ball game from when readily
landing odds in Goodwood maiden last week but no doubting that place here is fully
deserved; Can go well although more needed.
VERDICT: Any one of 6 could be given a winning chance here.
The weight that ANGELS WILL FALL gets from Gamilati and Best Terms swings the
vote in her direction, although an each/way saver on the last named would not
go amiss. Shumoos and Fire Lily should also be thereabouts at the finish.
