2.00 York
DBS Premier Yearling Stakes (Class 2) (2YO only)
Winner £136,868
Advice: 1 pt win Crown Dependency (10/3 Hills), 0.5 pt
each/way Gerfalcon (18/1 Coral)
West Leake Diman: Impressed when taking his maiden at
Haydock but even better when winning minor event at Newmarket; Poorly weighted
from that with second Magic City and giving weight away won’t be of any help
here.
Apostle: Took three tries to break maiden and needed
forceful ride to get up when winning at Yarmouth; Looked exposed when coming
last at Goodwood in Nursery off 87 and needs much more.
Bogart: Defied maturing family (most of his relatives have
success at middle distances, or the ages of 3 or above) to make impressive
winning debut at Ayr; Didn’t fare so well when upped in class at Glorious
Goodwood but that probably not his best but can do well here.
Byronic Hero: Had shown big signs of inexperience when green
in preliminaries and walked down to the start before running on for fourth;
Pontefract second was good if not slightly disappointing and needs to do
better.
Crown Dependency: Made a most taking debut when easy winner
of maiden here (6 furlongs) on debut last month & eye-catching in Norfolk
(ahead of Burwaaz) when not getting a clear passage late on and just got too
far back when fourth in Molecomb; Should take the beating stepped back upto 6f.
Electric Qatar: Showed definite promise when third on first two
starts and unlucky to be caught out in centre, away from all the action, in
Super Sprint; Main problem is that this no easier.
Well Palace: Pitched into a deep race on debut when well
behind Miss Work Of Art and then beaten with ease by Crown Dependency at
Goodwood; Deserved maiden win but still looks held.
Gerfalcon: Ran on strongly when beaten by a good colt (despite
subsequent failure in hot Group race) on debut at Ascot and then broke maiden
in what one would consider fairly straightforward style; That form now working
out well though, with second and third winning, and worth considering for
stable who have 3 recent wins in this race.
Hamza: Was a ready winner of a 5f Musselburgh maiden on
debut from subsequent winner & bettered that form significantly when clear
second to Royal Ascot prospect Gatepost, with four other winners behind; Beaten
by good pair at Beverley and Windsor Castle form working out well, and while
his Super Spint Sixth is creditable others here have better credentials.
Hestian: £40,000 purchase who was always travelling well
before beating solid yardstick and subsequent winner An Ghalanta at Naas; Step
up in trip sure to suit and can get involved.
Letsgoroundagain: Consistent colt who gained a deserved win
at fourth attempt of asking but well held by both Bogart and Magic City so
unlikely to reverse form.
Magic City: Looked group class when thrashing decent maiden
field but just not gone on from that despite meeting some good horses along the
way; Better off with West Leake Diman form their last meeting but does look
exposed.
Miss Work Of Art: Well backed to make an impressive winning
debut and stepped forward markedly when beating long odds on Magic City &
another impressive winner at Ascot; Ground things out over the minimum trip in
Listed race but hasn’t handled step up to Group company very well and passed
over.
Moustache: Made amends for odds on defeat when getting up in
nick of time under textbook Richard Hughes ride at Glorious Goodwood, but
wanted further then and this a step up.
Ortea: Clear cut winner of Nottingham maiden but then well
behind Magic City and the beaten again in fair conditions event last time.
Parc De Lunay: Travelled like a more than useful horse
before lengthening out well despite hanging badly late on debut, and took time
to find his stride again when challenged at Newcastle; Restless in stalls
beforehand when giving trouble to handlers when last in Richmond and shouldn’t be
discounted.
Red Art: Looked like a useful little horse when getting the
better of two solid yardsticks when giving weight on both occasions; Second to
exposed but prolific little winner and shouldn’t be discounted.
Ponty Acclaim: Made impressive debut before bumping into
Gatepost and Federick Engles on both starts since; Clear cut winner over Nagham
but disappointed a bit in Super Sprint (very low weight) and this should prove
too tough.
Roger Sez: Continued steady progression when landing a hat –
trick in competitive Nursery at Newcastle, and racing style (assuming she gets
the luck in running ) could be helpful with so much speed here; Not to be
underestimated.
Worthington: Won Carlisle maiden (good to soft) despite
decisively despite meeting some mid-race trouble but didn’t run to that form
when midfield at Royal Ascot; Listed fourths probably as good as she is.
VERDICT: Back at 6 furlongs CROWN DEPENDENCY holds a solid
chance of winning a competitive heat. He had nothing go his way at Goodwood or
Royal Ascot and granted a clear run, should be hard to beat. Hestian, Bogart
and West Leake Diman will all rightly have their supporters but it could be
worth an each/way saver on GERFALCON at the prices given the solid look of his
latest win.
