3.15 Newmarket
german-thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes (Fillies' Group
3) (Class 1) (2YO only)
Winner £25,520
Pick: Discourse (win)
Arsaadi: A comfortable winner following an all-weather
debut, she was well held by Kinetica having raced on the stands side (lost
ground crossing over) ; Can get closer but this harder in any case and probably
won’t reverse form with winner from that day.
Desert Gazelle: $400,000 yearling who was very impressive
when winning by wide margin at July Meeting first time up, and surely has more
to come for an extra furlong (like many in this field); Should go well.
Discourse: Took her time to get going but made strong late
progress to catch her stablemate Gamilati (subsequent Cherry Hinton winner) on
the post, finding 6 furlongs too short; Form can’t be taken literally but
should clearly go well here and pick of Frankie Dettori.
Golden Valley: Open to more progress having improved on
debut effort at Windsor when landing ordinary 7f maiden at Doncaster although she
faces far better types here and others preferred.
Hawfinch: Penny took time to drop but did the job more than
well when running out a ready winner of AW maiden on debut; Not quite lived upto
that when behind Lily’s Angel, Arsaadi and Kinetica last twice but others are preferred.
Illunaglass: Backed into odds – on for debut and won well
despite flashing tail at the stat and a furlong out and sure to progress from that;
Confirmed that promise when third in the Albany on ground that wouldn’t have
suited and needed more than 6 furlongs when well behind Gamilati in Cheery Hinton
and has a big chance here.
Kinetica: Has been a rapid improver on three starts,
following up easy Chester win with impressive Sandown Listed success, albeit muddled
by her rider sticking on favoured far side; That said, still impressive and
plenty more to come.
Lily’s Angel: Raced exclusively at 5f on first 4 career
starts, going through first three races unbeaten before bumping into useful
pair in hot Beverley event; Only fifth in Albany (unsuited by the soft ground)
and right back to form in Listed event/Super Sprint; Exposed but the step up to
7 furlongs is sure to improve her.
Semayyel: Too raw on debut, when starting slowly and never
really getting into contention on debut and while she will improve for that,
this too hard.
Waylah: Travelled well through decent 6f maiden at Ascot
before being unable to go with pair with experience at the front (debutant
third); Should find a race especially at this trip but not today
Zingana: Belied odds of 100/1 when providing her yard with a
rare first-time-out winner at Newbury and while she’s outsider this time, her
form suggests she is worthy of the pattern; Interesting outsider.
VERDICT: A good renewal of this contest so the winner will
have to be smart. Cases can be made for plenty but the step up to 7 furlongs
should really improve DISCOURSE, who gets the vote over stablemate Desert Gazelle.
The selection’s form can’t be taken out of context but she’s clearly a useful
filly in any case. Kinectica is also a threat but Illunaglass could surprise a
few stepped up to this trip.
