Royal Whip Stakes 2011

2.35 Curragh

Keeneland Royal Whip Stakes (group 2) (3YO plus)
Winner €57,150

Pick: Banimpire (win)

Owner detailsAoife Alainn: Rapidly progressive for Italian connections when taking a hat – trick in Rome before adding to that tally in Italian Group 1 at the end of the season, dispatching of solid yardstick with ease; Satisfactory return in Pretty Polly Stakes and foolish to dismiss here.

Owner detailsBanimpire: One of most improved fillies this season, landing no less than 5 Group races including Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, and was desperately unlucky to get chinned by 1,000 Guineas winner Blue Bunting in Irish Oaks; If that race hasn’t taken too much out of her, the one to beat here with stamina guaranteed.

Owner detailsCocozza: Looked a very useful performer in the making last year when putting away stablemate with ease but disappointing on only start this year, albeit not having things to suit in race; Will need far more here but a possible winner for sure.

Owner detailsDunboyne Express: Showed potential stardom when slamming Samuel Morse to win Anglesey buy wide margin, and forgiven Racing Post Trophy fifth having had an interrupted preparation (form worked out); Returned with smooth win for easy task at Leopardstown but failed to build on that promise when running into only poor fifth in Irish Guineas/Derby and well held despite generous weight concession behind Famous Name last time; Others preferred.

Owner detailsMuthadee: Looked like a smart prospect when landing AW maiden last backend and unlucky to lose out in a strange contest (three way go at the line with Cocozza well back at Naas latest); Should improve again for that run and contender here.

Owner detailsGemstone: Consistent sort who’s capable of quite a good level of form when in right class, but has been well held behind Banimpire the last twice and would only be fancied if getting her own way out in front.

VERDICT: A tightly matched field but one that looks at the Mercy of BANIMPIRE if she’s fit and well following another cracking effort in the Irish Oaks. Muthadee may be next best.
