2.30 York
sportingbet.com Acomb Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (2YO only)
Winner £29,600
Pick: Furner’s Green (win)
Al Khan: Travelled well within himself before drawing right
away for a clear success at Doncaster, and that form has been boosted convincingly
since by top 5; This step up in trip should suit, one of likelier form chances
and should go well.
Archbishop: Stable has won this twice recently (in 2007 and
2010) and turned many heads when running green but still holding off rivals
with fair bit in hand (slow early gallop): Should go well.
Balty Boys: Ran far too free on debut (form hasn’t worked
out) but better when winning easily a 6f Newbury maiden recently; This a big
step up and others may have more to offer.
Battle Of Saratoga: Stuck on well for second behind
reopposing Furner’s Green at Tipperary on debut, and then ran a good race when
again sticking on well having tried to make up in Listed event; Won’t be
reversing form with winner from debut run.
Caledonian Spring: Got off the mark for the first time when
running out a convincing winner at Ascot (first time at this trip); Needs to
find more now and others might be more progressive.
East Meets West: Decent fourth on debut behind Battle Of
Saratoga and Funer’s Green; Unlucky not to reverse that form when unable to get
a clear run in Listed event last time and while he should go well, this is a
far better contest.
Entifhaadha: Made a most taking debut when running out a clear
winner of more than decent looking July Course maiden which has been boosted by
the unlucky third winning a Listed race with something to spare.
Fort Bastion:
Well-liked and made a most taking debut when second to well liked Mezmaar in
Haydock maiden (form not worked out ) and bettered that when nicely clear of
rest behind Maybe in Chesham Stakes; Disappointing when favourite for Group 2 but
this looks harder in a sense.
Furner’s Green: Made a most impressive debut when coming
home clear of Listed placed stablemates with ease at Tipperary, made more notable
by rider carrying overweight; This is a tougher task but no doubting promise
and the ease in the ground should be a major help.
Moon Pearl: Beat a pair of next-time-out winners at Ascot
(6f) and notable that she did so for stable who don’t have too many first time
out winners; Step up in trip too should suit and one to note.
Now My Sun: Pulling and green all the way round (snatched up
at one point) but that didn’t stop him winning on debut at Haydock; Only worry
is that this is a far tougher assignment and while respected, passed over.
Rock Supreme: Got the job done when going to the front form
one furlong out, although the fast finishing debutant Surfer (may well have got
there in another furlong) was well held by Archbishop; Tough task.
Zumbi: Rare juvenile winner for yard when leading late in
the day to make a winning debut at Ascot; Should make considerable improvement
for step up in trip and experience, so has to be rated a contender.
VERDICT: A strong race with plenty of untapped potential. At
the time of writing the ground is good to soft all round which strengthens the
case for FURNER’S GREEN, who looked group class when a clear cut winner on his
Tipperary debut, form which has been underlined by Battle Of Saratoga and East
Meets West. Zumbi should improve for the step up in trip and be a threat, while
Al Khan and Archbishop rate serious prospects.
