2.30 Newbury
Denford Stud Stakes (Registered As The Washington Singer
Stakes) (Listed) (Str) (Class 1) (2YO
only)
Winner £12,193
Pick: Rougemont (win)
Fencing: Did well to come third on debut considering he was
slowly away and badly drawn in grand scheme of things at Newmarket, making
decent late progress behind taking winner; Should prove upto this class and can
do well.
Foster’s Road: Didn’t enjoy the rub of the green in face of
stiff assignment on Goodwood debut, but looked as if he’d need another run to
progress and this harder.
Leqqaa: Bolted up on Leicester debut and then showed better
form when just touched off by useful once – raced winner over this C&D
latest; Should go well again here and may well have come on for that.
Mister Music: Too raw behind good looking stablemate on
debut at Newmarket but looked to have a future of his own when running out a
clear cut winner of Sandown maiden; Unlucky not to get a run in 4 runner event
at Newmarket last time but more needed still and second string.
Rougemont: Created a
very taking debut when running on gamely, winning and earning classic quotes at
the July Meeting, albeit in a maiden that didn’t work out well; Still holds
promise and can go close here.
Telwaar: Lacking experience when outpaced mid race on debut
(behind Singalat and Bounty Seeker) and deeply impressive when easily beating
well liked pair at Doncaster; Not proved upto Listed standard last twice and
vulnerable.
Shivsingh: Half sister to multiple winners Observatory (over
6f at 2) and Star Magnitude, a triple
7-10f winner at 4-5; Thrown in at deep end for debut but respected coming from
stable.
VERDICT: ROUGEMONT turned many heads when winning on his
debut at the July Meeting and is expected to prove upto pattern company here.
Fencing was unlucky on his debut and can do better here, while Leqqaa proabaly
has more to offer.
