Royal Ascot - Chesham Stakes

Royal Ascot (Day 5, Race 1)
Chesham Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (2yo) Winner £28,385

Pick: Maybe (win)

Bling King: Bounced back from sub – par showing (amiss) when landing 6f maiden at Brighton on third outing last month, and good 2 lengths second in minor event at Chepstow last time; This far tougher.

Bounty Seeker: Holds good chance on his debut when too raw and green when fourth to St Barths and possible better form when fourth behind another Coventry principal on last start; Not to be ingored.

Fort Bastion: Well-liked and made a most taking debut when second to well liked Mezmaar in Haydock maiden (form not worked out this week, but still solid nevertheless) and obviously going to do better here; Chance for in form stable.

Goldoni: Much too green on debut at Sandown (behind Polydamos) and did show ablity but this tougher test and passed over.

Island Melody: Showed little on debut despite being and impossible to see him making impact here.

Manomine: Limited in two starts to date.

Polydamos: Showed albeit on debut when getting no run at all having been held up (principals tracked pace) on Sandown debut, and will make improvement from that start; This requires more but likely he’s got it.

Singalat: Went forward in big way from debut when only three lengths behind st Barths and a head infront of Bounty Seeker; Has switched yards since and hard to know how form related, but could go well at a price if trip suits.

Swing Alone: Shrewd yard should not be discounted but pitched in deep end at debut.

Telwaar: Lacking experience when outpaced mid race on debut (behind Singalat and Bounty Seeker) and deeply impressive when easily beating well liked pair at Doncaster; Has a big chance here and will go well.

Yammos: Far too slow when eight on debut but quite a step forward when third next time, again too keen; Seemed just beaten on merit when third last time and passed over here .

Esentepe: Too inexperienced on debut and shaped as if this trip to suit last twice, when third in 5.5f maiden at Warwick, and further progress when runner-up at Newbury; This requires more and stable have her down as second choice.

Falls Of Lora: Shaped with promise when second to Glee on debut at Goodwood, and much improved when impressive winner at Doncaster last time; This trip will suit based on that and given a big shout.

Majestic Rose: Impressive winner on debut at Kempton, although runner up only plies trade in selling company, and disappointed latest when well behind in Hilary Needler on latest start.

Maybe: Made one of the most impressive debuts seen all season when defying market drift to make virtually all at Naas, beating Listed second by four and half lengths with Listed winner Teolane behind; Could progress from that and major chance here.

Self Centred: Not at all knocked about when fifth on Newmarket debut recently, but suspicion is that she will do better in time and maybe today’s not the day.

VERDICT: The Hannon’s record in this means that Fort Bastion must be respected but MAYBE made a deep impression when routing her field and that form has been boosted since so it might be worth taking the chance she goes on the ground, an unknown for many of this field. Telwar and Falls Of Lora make as much appeal as any.
