Wayward Lad Novices' Chase 2012

12.55 Kempton
williamhill.com Novices' Chase (Registered As The Wayward Lad Novices' Chase) (Grade 2) (Class 1)  (4YO plus)
Winner £13,326

Advice: 3 pts double Simonsig and Sizing Europe (1.25, Leopardstown) (1.6 Betfair)

Owner detailsRoyale’s Charter: Jumping problems blighted him of late but shown a lot of talent and won the last two times he’s stayed up; Going well when falling before race came to business end at Ascot latest and while he looks overmatched, should run creditably.

Owner detailsSimonsig: Barring one defeat, dominant novice hurdler of last year in spectacular campaign that produced wide margin successes at Cheltenham and Aintree festivals in 2m4f novice hurdles; Empathic winner on chasing debut for all that he has only one rival (rated 5 stone inferior) from half way, but it proved that he’d go through the ground and this race (barring a couple) looks just as easy; Should win well.

Owner detailsItoldyou: Looks hopelessly outclassed on chasing debut on evidence of being well beaten in two novice hurdles this season.

Owner detailsWings Of Smoke: Improved on hurdles form when taking conditionals' handicap on second chase start at Newbury (2m3f, good to soft) before well held Sandown third (soft) Trip a concern and doesn’t look upto it anyway.

Owner detailsHinterland: Decent juvenile hurdler last season (rated 141) and decisive winner off said mark on return at Chepstow over hurdles but desperately disappointing on return when pulling far too hard on Exeter (albeit second to a very useful winner) and feeling that he didn’t beat much into second in Henry VII Chase at Sandown; Shuld be booked for second if he settles.

VERDICT: SIMONSIG’S chasing debut was a non event and with heavy ground presumably not a problem based on that virtual Ascot walkover, he should win easily once again even giving Hinterland 11lbs. A double with him and Sizing Europe is 1.6 on  Betfair and looks solid based on their form.
