Advice: 1 pt win Peddlers Cross (8/11 Hills)
Peddlers Cross: Top class over hurdles, unbeaten in 7 before
finding just Hurricane Fly too good in last year’s Champion Hurdle (over the
top for Aintree disappointment); Impeccable start to chasing, barely coming off
bridle to make it 2-2 over fences from good rival (who won Grade 1 over
hurdles) at Bangor last time; First proper test over fences but has great
attitude so that no problem.
Sprinter Sacre: A dual bumper winner, he scoped dirty when
failing to see out his race against Frascati Park (saw plenty of daylight
during early stages) but put that right when bolting up at Ffos Las and Ascot
impressing with his speed on both occasions; Highly fancied for Supreme but
once again just a little keen that day and may have done too much to early
judged on way he faded after hitting the last; Chasing debut was super
impressive though and exciting to see him tested so soon.
Harry Hunt: Struggled to hold his own in better company
after breaking his maiden and this too hard for him, even without him having
had a start over fences.
VERDICT: One of the potential races of the season, let alone
the Christmas period, with PEDDLERS CROSS given the vote to see off exciting
chasing recruit Sprinter Sacre in what’s essentially a tantalizing match. Nicky
Henderson’s novice is held in nothing but the highest regard and gets 2lbs but
last year’s Champion Hurdle second, as you could imagine, was superior over
hurdles and has taken to fences with aplomb.
