Shawbrook Bank Graduation Chase (Class 2) (4YO plus)
Winner £15,640
Advice: 1 pt win Aerial (2/1 Coral)
Aerial: Made a mockery of handicap mark of 126 when romping
home at Wincanton before getting turned over in novice chase here in tongue
tie; Back to best with excellent fourth in Paddy Power Gold Cup and ease in the
ground may well help his cause again, so high on the list.
Gilbarry: Well placed to win Grade 2 novice chase by 16 lengths
last year but not run anywhere close the same form since, a poor seventh when
unseating last time over 2 miles here; Needs much more.
Giorgio Quercus: Promoted to finish ahead of Dan Breen on
third chasing start (form boosted since); Well beaten in Arkle and then 20
furlong Grade 2 Chase at Ayr (well behind Gilbarry); Needs more here and
feeling that he’s coming disappointing over fences.
Hell’s Bay: Ran with real credit over fences twice last
year, one when trying to give Time For Rupert weight and then when winning
Grade 2 on New Year’s Day; Will be very hard to beat if straight and ready on
his first run since.
Soixante: Only had four starts since winning at Kempton in
Febuary of last year, proving no match for Coup Royale despite winner’s various
mistakes on that day; Better options here.
Canni Thinkar: Runner up four times over fences, including to
Mossley (Grade 2 winner over hurdles)’ Those in soft affairs though and hard to
think he’s got a serious chance here.
VERDICT: Hell’s Bay is the one to beat on the ratings but it’s
hard to know how straight he’ll be after a year off, along with having no wins
on soft ground. Some cut in the ground should suit AERIAL, who posted an
extremely promising effort in the Paddy Power Gold Cup on his seasonal debut.
