1.20 Fairyhouse
Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase (Grade 1) (Class
1) (4YO plus)
Winner €48,750
Advice: 1 pt win First Lieutentnant (6/4 general)
Alpha Ridge: Classy hurdler who hasn’t quite taken to fences
as hoped (still a maiden in this sphere) and while he’s run some good races,
he’s safely held by Gigginstown’s runners on a line through Last Instalment.
Bog Warrior: Held in nothing but the highest regard by his
trainer and had the biggest pointer possible when runner up Flemenstar (whom he
beat by 7 lengths with ease) bolted up at Navan on the bridle; Looks a top prospect
for fences.
First Lieutenant: Top class over hurdles, winning the Baring
Bingham Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham with a late charge; Two from three over
fences but looked as if he’d improved for his previous two efforts when running
out a ready winner of Grade 3 novice chase; More is needed today but hard to
think that he doesn’t have it.
Imperial Shabra: Formerly
useful hurdler who is 0-12 over fences and last won in August 2010, having been
placed twice in Grade 3 chases; Outclassed.
Rivage D’Or: Useful handicap hurdler (rated 130 at his peak)
who got off the mark over fences in good style last time out, but does look the
weakest of his owners challenge by far and passed over here.
Shinrock Paddy: Grade 1 winner over hurdles who hasn’t made
a great start to chasing, falling away when asked for his effort over trip too
short for him; Still put into his place by Lambro last time out though and
others readily preferred.
VERDICT: It’s fascinating to be able to see Bog Warrior
again after his profile has been boosted in all sorts of ways since his
impressive debut, although FIRST LIEUTENANT gets the vote narrowly, with his
win in Grade 1 company over hurdles suggests a bright future at his game.
