Sandown’s Tingle Creek meeting has more than enough intrigue
already without an excellent renewal of the Winter Novices Hurdle – which this
year will surely decide a new favourite for the Neptune Hurdle at the Festival
later – along with the prospect of seeing the reigning Champion Chaser Sizing
Europe going at it on Saturday.
Lexicon Lad isn’t going to attract the same names of those
mentioned above but the 7lbs pull that he has to give to Henrietta Knight’s
Loch Ba, who he beat easily last time out, makes the race very interesting form
a betting point of view.
Henrietta Knight’s stable had a poor mid-season last year
but much of that can be put down to weather hold ups at home and this year she
should be much more on target, which leads me to believe that the 4/1 about
Loch Ba reversing form with a 7lbs turnaround is worth an interest despite the
ease of the victory from Lexicon Lad.
Semi Colon (seen above right) could easily prove better than them both but the
dangers of backing debutants in this sphere was well borne out when the novices
handicap chase at Newbury was turned into a mini Grand National with the well
fancied favourite Master Fiddle falling for the same connections. That, along
with the 7lbs rise (meaning she has topweight), makes her only just opposable.
Advice
1 pt win Loch Ba, 1.20 Sandown (7/2 general)
