1.55 Cheltenham
Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle (Registered As The Bristol
Novices' Hurdle) (Grade 2) (Class 1)
(4YO plus)
Winner £12,244
American Spin: Proper stayer, his one win coming in a 3m3f
soft ground novice hurdle (by 27 lengths); That form is rather dire though and
others may have better claims here.
Deireadh Re: First win of any kind (had made the frame in 3
Irish points) over 3 miles at Worcester
on debut before finding possibly drop in trip/penalty a bit too much at
Ascot (came well clear of three time winner); Should go well here.
Rev It Up: Game winner on hurdles debut when beating well
regarded prospects and even more impressive under penalty latest, when running
away with Ffos Las novice hurdle; Should go well.
Sea Of Thunder: Improved in second season over hurdles,
breaking maiden in comfortable style over hurdles; Well beaten into second at
Wetherby latest and while this new trip could spark improvement, he needs it.
Brass Tax: Caught a tartar in Simonsig at Ascot on debut for
yard and should be helped by a step up in trip, although those behind him were
very weak.
Halley: Would be the class act in this line up based on his
all the way win in Prix Maurice Gillois, a race which has been won by Long Run
and Kauto Stone in its last two editions; Hard to know just how that translates
to this code but evidently has a lot of ablity and could make a bold bid.
VERDICT: A below grade renewal. Because of the yards that
are sending them, respect should be given to Deiredah Re and Rev It Up, although
HALLEY might have the strongest claims based on his win in France’s premier
novice chase if able to translate that form to this sphere.
