Leopardstown Christmas Festival - United Arab Emirates Embassy Juvenile Hurdle 2011

1.20 Leopardstown
United Arab Emirates Embassy Juvenile Hurdle (grade 2) (Class 1)  (3YO only)
Winner €27,625
Advice: 1 pt win Sam Bass (2/1 general)

Owner detailsOne Cool Shabra: Been on the go since August but improved with every run and made it three wins over hurdles with hard fought win over stablemate of likely favourite at Gowran (gave away weight); Should run another good race here.

Owner detailsSam Bass: Useful on the flat and has transferred that form to hurdles despite not being the easiest, (or most well ridden) horse at times, reversing previous form convcingly and then confirming said form when winning Grade 3 event at Fairyhouse; Penalty for that but should go well anyway.

Owner detailsBlue Cannon: Proven a little disappointing over hurdles, with only one win in four, that coming at Down Royal; Needs a lot more than the disappointing effort he gave last time and stablemate much preffered.

Owner detailsBurrenbridge Lodge: Made an excellent start to life over hurdles and convcing effort when given One Cool Shabra weight and a beating at Cork; That for been turned around since though and while he now gets weight from said pair, feeling they might be superior off level weights.

Owner detailsCelebrity Sevi: Making into a very good horse on the flat when last seen, taking Listed race at Down Royal just 45 days ago at Dundalk; Right attributes for jumping game (able to lead on flat but had speed to win at well below 12 furlongs) and should go well here.

Owner detailsEl Toreros: Never upto much on the flat (rated just 66) so encouraging to see him run well on hurdling debut (made a lot of ground late on, suggesting he would improve for the run); His Excellency gave that form a boost when running second at Fairyhouse  but he was behind and hard to think he’ll be revering that form.

Owner detailsHis Excellency: Has been severely held back by his tendency to swish tail under pressure, running shockers in maiden company before running on Grade 2 second behind Sam Bass; Worry about him is that he must be delivered in certain way, but has a form chance.

Owner detailsPur Style: Interesting if able to repeat best of French form (winner of Listed fillies’ hurdle) but not gone on from that since and market might tell all about her chances.

VERDICT: Dermot Weld’s useful looking recruit Celebrity Sevi is sure to be popular and should have schooled well, but the strong travelling SAM BASS might have more to give and stands a good chance of making it 4 from 5 over hurdles, with his win last time giving him the strongest form claims in the field.
