1 pt win Best Served Cold, 1.15 Limerick (2/1 Boylesports)
Gigginstown House stud are having a fantastic time of things
over Christmas and they can add another winner to the tally with Michael
Hourigan's Best Served Cold in the Grade 3 Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle at
Limerick.
Since encountering heavy ground he’s gone form two fifth
placed finishes to two convincing wins and a good second behind Corbally Ghost
in a Grade 3 at Cork last time may well have been an improved effort given how
he was slightly hampered by the winner before the last.
Today’s task isn’t made any easier by the presence of Please
Talk – a really impressive maiden hurdle winner who should have no problem
stepping up in trip – who also gets 3lbs from the pick, but Best Served Cold
looks to have been found a suitable chance to win his third race under rules and proabaly rates a bit of value at 15/8.
2 pts win Competitive Edge w/o Make Your Mark, 12.25
Leopardstown (11/10 Paddy Power)
At first thoughts the impression was that Make Your Mark was
a little bit short at just 8/13 despite his hugely impressive bumper win, and
the horse to take him on with was probably Competitive Edge, whose form behind
Cash And Go on his hurdling debut has since been well boosted by the inner once
again scoring in Grade 1 company.
Just how reliable that form is for Grade 1 level might still
be a little debateable but Competitive Edge was staying on well and had a
previous winner back in third (Spring Heeled) while the seventh home that day
has since won since.
Having hurdling experience and also with his first run since
July, with the step up in trip another possible plus, he can at least prove
best of the rest if not able to match up to the favourite.
